  • Missouri Valley Conference Standings - 2/27/08 with tiebreakers

There is still a big cluster in the middle of the MVC standings. Tonight's wins by IlSU and UNI helped secure Bradley at least a 5th place seeding in the tournament. In all likelihood, the Braves will play Creighton again next Friday. But, as mentioned in another thread, if **edited for accuracy** Evansville can beat UNI on senior night (possible), Indiana State can win against Missouri State at home (where they rarely lose), and BU beats Creighton, it will be the Braves against the Trees next Friday.

Any questions, feel free to ask!

This would put SIU, isu, and Creighton all in the other half of the bracket! Let's go UNI, InSU, and of course LET'S GO BRAVES!!!

I would love to take our chances against InSU, and Drake/MSU/WSU/EU on our way to the Championship game.

There's some mis-information going on here about the tie-breakers. People forget that if 3 teams tie in the standings, it goes to round robin first between the teams. If CU, ISU (blue), and UNI all end up tied, CU will be the 5 seed as they were 3-1, ISU blue would be 6 as they were 2-2, and UNI would be 7 as they are 1-3.

So basically if we want to play Indiana State on Friday, we need UNI to lose to Evansville along with a BU and ISU win.

That's correct, I'm not sure why I wrote that in my original post. I will edit that for accuracy.

Creighton would win via the round robin format with the other two teams, but they'd lose in tiebreaker points if it was just between them and Indiana State.

          Thanks for noticing that!

Evansville and Indiana State winning on senior night seems very plausible, so the biggest part of that equation will be Bradley beating Creighton.
          Go Braves!

Just curious, but why does the #1 seed automatically play the winner of the #8/#9 matchup and not the #10 seed if they beat #7?

Seems the #1 seed should be playing the lowest seed remaining in the tournament after Thursday's games.

You're proposing something that the NHL does, by reseeding based on results. The NBA however, is just like the MVC tournament. I can see both sides to the argument. I generally like the way the basketball teams do it, as it penalizes an underdog for winning. If you're a high seed, you should be able to beat whoever you play, but the reseeding forces nearly an impossible road for an underdog to succeed. I can also see the argument for reseeding ... I wonder what others think about this.

The tournament doesn't get reseeded after any round. It makes it simplier to know when your potential games are by the Sunday before the tournament. Plus, it would penalize the #10 seed if they won by making them play again in about 14 hours after they won.

The #1 seed has never lost to a team in the quarterfinals since the play-in round was created, so I don't think it'll change. The #2 seed has only lost once to a play-in team. It's one of the reasons that the game down in Carbondale on Saturday is so important.

Now it's just a matter of who we will be playing! I'm hoping it's InSU!

How does it shape up if we loose? Couldn't there be three way tie for 5th place?

If BU, UNI and Indy St all tie (and we all were 2-2 against each other), BU would have 78 tiebreaker points to Indy St's 75 (I think) and UNI's 68 (I think). So we'd get the 5 seed.
