I'm left wondering why anyone pays for that rag!

Hey...the Pantagraph is doing something new....they are now covering the actual DUI arrests and convictions of the ISU basketball players.
Up 'til now they completely ignored this stuff until we pressured them to cover it by covering it here on the boards.
Also note the comment at the end.....that Sampay has already been suspended..
        ahem....really?? when....

Published September 15, 2007, in the Pantagraph - Bloomington, Illinois

          Jankovich suspends ISU's Sampay
ByJim Benson NORMAL - Junior forward Brandon Sampay has been suspended indefinitely for violation of team rules, Illinois State basketball coach Tim Jankovich announced Friday.

Sampay was charged on July 30 in McLean County Circuit with one count of driving under the influence of alcohol and two counts of illegal transportation of alcohol. The incident took place at 12:19 a.m. on July 29 in Normal.

His suspension was in name only.
He was reinstated before the first game.
And his DUI event was July 30, and it took until Sept. 15 to decide on a meaningless suspension! That's 2 1/2 months!

If Jim Les handled a suspension like that for a real DUI (instead of a speeding violation), there might be a writer or 2 from the PJ Star that would stroke out!

and he was seen and photgraphed immediately thereafter at the very next practice/preseason workout, so there was NO suspension, and this was even confirmed by other ISU fans and the head coach.

              Note the article from 10/12/08
"Dyer's DUI, Sampay's charges may not cost them a game"

Maybe his suspension involved having to eat at a corner table in the Athletics dining room.

Frankly I don't care what ISU does with its players, but I bring it up to quiet the baseless rips that Bradley is not strict and the athletes are out of control.
                  When and if
-- the BU athletes vote on whether to come to practice
-- and when the BU athletes get caught underage with open liquor in the car they were driving and don't even miss a practice
-- and the Bradley athletes are arrested in bar fights and get into gunfights
-- or steal computers or nearly kill teammates then go back to drink at a party
-- or it's revealed that they are playing after accepting $25,000 of gifts and impermissible benefits
....then gimme a call and we can discuss this again...but for now, case closed.

People make mistakes, but as I said on a post yesterday, when our athletes make a mistake, they have been held accoutable. That simply does not happen at a lot of universities across the country.

For all you "truthers" out here. . .

If you are defending Ruffin's innocence and hearsay as fact (let's be honest here, both sides are doing it), why are you also not up in arms about Ruffin's suspension?

I mean, we attacked the President on that matter, for interfering with the program with Wilson and Cole-Scott.

Where's the outcry about this suspension?

It is there, you must have missed it...
and aren't you taking a pretty self-righteous position where you can believe in what you want to believe, but you chastise anyone who wants to believe a viewpoint that is corroborated by not just the defendant, but also by an eyewitness, and even some of the self-evident facts.

I have an idea....believe what you want, let everyone else believe what they want and stop trying to decide for them.

squirrel, last Saturday I predicted it would only be a matter of time before the PJ Star finally found and printed some of the very facts that they are now revealing for the very first time, but the evidence for those facts existed five days ago.....
I think I have already proven I am five days ahead of you and the people who espouse your viewpoint,
so give it another few days and you'll come around, too.

That's one thing I can't seem to understand. People say he deserves to be presumed innocent until proven guilty (which I agree with), but at the same time applaud the administration for suspending him immediately, while still saying he deserves to be playing until all the facts come out.

Quite a few holes in this post. Care to elaborate. One of the faults that I have with the new Prez is that I dont think she is very decisive.

The closest thing I can think of. . .

In 7th grade, I was standing outside waiting for school to start. Two of my buddies came up and we started talking. Then they started talking about punching one another.

Next thing I know, one says, "let's punch squirrely instead". One of them hits me right on the eyebrow.

I go into the office to get an ice pack. 30 minutes later I'm on the way home with an all-day suspension because the other two's story was corroborated.

My suspension was later repealed because the Principal didn't know who to punish, so he punished all 3. And all I did was get hit in the eye.

Fact is only 3 people know the "facts" and you're not one of them.
