  • ESPN Mistakes Tonight

I should have started this in the first half. I've forgotten several but here's a few:

-Repeated references to Bradley player "Tyrone Salley".
-Calling Bradley Jim Les's "hometown school."
-Mistaking Crouch's record for single season mark, not Bradley all-time mark.

On the whole I enjoyed the telecast and thought ESPN did a good job..........good unbiased announcers

Agreed, 100%. Gottlieb obviously doesn't watch Bradley regularly and did a good amount of homework. Can't expect perfection, but did a good job overall.
      Go Braves!

I'd much rather take ANY ESPN mistakes over anything from some other announcers.

It's tough for these guys to get up to speed so quickly, once you remember all the games they have to call.

Of course, Gottlieb is a tool anyways, so

Didn't mean to hate on them too much...overall I thought it was okay. They did take some time and do some research...that's more than you get on a lot of national broadcasts. Still wondering who Tyrone Salley is...maybe he knows Patrick O'Rourke from the NCAA tournament team...

Yes, Gottlieb and company did a fine job. And despite the outcome of the game tonight, some great discussion took place on which teams from the Valley still have a shot at an at-large bid. What was Bradley's loss is the Valley's gain in that I also agree that SIU still has a good shot at an at-large bid if they lose in the Valley championship game (hopefully to us! ). That scenerio actually may be the Valley's best shot for three teams to make the tournament, with Drake losing in the semis, and SIU losing to us or some other team.

But the best part of the game tonight was no ridiculous statement by Gottlieb and company like the one Kyle Welliston made earlier on his website. I think these two were too smart for that.

in our tournament resume section they also had us listed as both beating and losing to creighton, which we obviously havent lost to creighton.

There was made mention that Peoria was a major destination for Broadway shows back in the day.

From around the turn of the century (1900) to the '30s vaudville acts played alot in Peoria, not so much Broadway shows.

We played great on Valley TV last Tuesday, and great under adversity on ESPN360 on Saturday. I'm guessing those audiences combined didn't match tonight's ESPN2 audience, which is just salt in the very deep wounds we've suffered since Friday. I'm sick to my stomach about this ending to the season...and I think we played good tonight, considering the hand we were dealt. I'm emotionally spent on this group, I really am. This year wasn't supposed to be like this. But, I may end up in Omaha and I will sure as h-ll be there in St. Louis...that's just who I am. Not sure the relevance of my words here, but I gotta vent somewhere.

ESPN never bothered to show highlights of the game on Sportscenter after the Vandy game. Talked more about the best classic highlights and the NFL Combine than of college basketball.

Because people OUTSIDE OF PEORIA AND CARBONDALE are more interested in the NFL and that stupid highlight tournament than the BU-SIU game. It's a really simple concept.

SportsCenter isn't required to show highlights of the game just because it was on its "family of networks."

I got annoyed that they kept saying "the loser has no chance of an at large bid." Umm so what chance did Bradley have of an at large bid? I'm pretty sure that mostly went away after game 1 and was completely gone once Ruff got hurt.

I also wanted more statements on how bad of a school SIU is and how no one who can get into another school should ever go there or ISU. Doubt I'll get that.

I also loved how one of the announcer's was so confused about the standing up at the beginning of the 2nd half. He made the comment about why the crowd was still standing at the beginning of the 2nd half even though Bradley had already scored. He then was really confused when the crowd sat down after SIU scored. I guess since they mostly cover BCS schools, they didn't realize that some schools actually try to encourage playing defense.
