I gotta believe these schools are looking at Stemler for 1 reason. Deep reserve saved for the last 2 minutes of a close game to bury a three.
Right. Minnesota,Indiana, Marquette and others typically recruit deep reserves.
My guess if a guy can bury 3's in the last 2 min. he can bury them in other parst of the game as well.
Maybe we missed the boat on Stemler...time will tell
Well, he can bury threes all day - I don't care. If he can't play solid D (cause he is slow) and he has no other offensive moves... cya later, hasta la pasta, git-along-little-doggie.

Point is that D-1 schools don't recruit for deep reserves.
I really don't know if Lance can play at any of those levels but it's interesting that they are recruiting him. IMO if he can play at those schools he can play at BU as well

I hardly think Bradley "missed the boat" on Lance. His mother told me that no Div I schools offered a scholarship to him out of high school (several offered contingiency scholarships if he went to juco and got stronger). It was Bradley that was the only school to step forward with a scholarship offer after his freshman redshirt year at SWICC. Then he left on his own to go back there after his season at Bradley. He was homesick, and missed his girlfriend (he was dating the daughter of the SWICC coach then). I have seen it stated that Bradley "ran him out". Not true. If he would have been willing to play a reserve role for another year behind Cellus and the others, he was encouraged to stay. But Lance wanted to go somewhere he could be a starter and regular last year. And he chose to go back to SWICC. I would argue that they did not "miss the boat", but that Bradley and Jim Les were well ahead of the curve in evaluating Lance's talents.

Ok...would we want him back now? I don't know if some of these schools have offered or not, but if they have or do wouldn't he be good enough to play here? And maybe JL feels that he doesn't really want to be here either and that's fine too.
My miss the boat statemant was mainly that everyone didn't think he could play here and I was under the assumption that JL and crew didn't really consider it much of a loss..and it may not be.
Recruiting at the mid-major level is really kind of a crap shoot IMO most of the time.

From Bob Gibbons- Sally is listed as a 6'10" sophomore (this must be a mistake)--
              http://www.bobgibbons.net/secure/NewsPub/News/Stories/2001/10/11/100283190615.html

Here is an article that describes him during his senior year in high school---
Salley, a 6-foot-7, 196-pound senior forward from North Mecklenburg High School, has received calls from an impressive list of Division I schools, including North Carolina State, Ohio State, West Virginia, Iowa and Clemson, among others.
Not bad for someone who didn't start playing organized ball until his sophomore year.

              Another high school article-

In this ranking he was listed as the #146 player in the country coming out of high school in 2004--
              www.galaxy-of-stars.net/pages/ 11/page11.html

In the 7th-8th place game at the NJCAA tournament, Matt Salley scored 22 points and had 10 rebounds in a loss to Coffeyville CC, and ISU recruits Anthony Slack and Boo Richardson-

It's been confirmed that Matt Salley is the recruit who was on campus Friday and Saturday. He left Saturday to return to New York. Bradley would very much like to sign him and is awaiting his decision. We should hear something, soon.

              Correction:
In PM's that I sent to some posters, I referred to him as "Mark" Salley. That was an error. As we noted in the above post from Friday, his correct name is Matt Salley.

Salley was a 1st team All Region 15 team pick-

And he was a 1st team All Tournament pick in the NJCAA Division I tournament.-

Rivals has Salley's other schools as: Delaware, Hampton, Hartford, Rhode Island and Rider. I assume Salley has popped up on a few "bigger" schools radars as this recruiting process continues. Does anyone know of any others that are taking an intrest?

Good job, Coach and thanks for getting "tomorrow's news" about BU's recruits up for all to read well before it appears anywhere else.

                    Great job by Jim Les.
When every other school gave up and conceded that there were no quality big men recruits left out there, Jim came up with one.

Yo Coach! The guy wasn 9 for 45 from 3. I am not a math major, but is that not that a less than "quality" 20%?
Also 48% from the line will fit right in with Zachs sub 50% foul shooting.
                      Quality?
As always, I hope you are right! BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Grassman, I suspect Patrick O'Bryant's 3 point shooting might not be very good. Does that mean you would categorize him as a loser? Does every big man have to be a knock down 3-point shooter, too, to be any good?
Maybe you should give Jim Les your cell phone number so he could check in with you before every signing, and get your unseen assessment based on the one bad stat they might have.

Sorry coach 48% free throw shooting is also a "bad Stat"
Also, 13ppg in Juco ball is not going to win any scoring titles
                          anywhere.
Hey we really needed somebody and we got "the best available?'
Do we have a signed LOI?

                            Grass-
If he could do it, I am sure Jim Les would send in an order to the Big-Men-R-Us store and obtain a 6'8" forward with 20 ppg and 12 rpg averages. It's just not that simple.

Our #1 recruiting target was Marcus Sikes. You probably would have been happy if Bradley signed him, right?
We barely lost out to Cincinnati, and he was also offered by major schools like Seton Hall and Minnesota. His scoring average was slightly more than 12 ppg, and he averaged about 9 rpg. Not significantly different from Matt Salley's.
Using your criteria, Jim Les shouldn't have wasted his time with this stiff, right?

Another top target was Anthony Slack, who signed with Illinois State. He scored over 20 points a game in the last 3 NJCAA tournament games his team played in. That scoring outburst raised his season average to 11.6 ppg, and 9.0 rpg. He was just 4 for 13 on 3's (30.8%) and 88 of 168 on free throws (52.4%). I would take Matt Salley's stats over Slack's. And in the game they played against each other at the Juco tournament, they played each other pretty even. I suspect you are wondering why we bothered.

And I could list the stats for more of the top juco big men in the country and many of them are no better than Matt Salley's. I would caution that you can't judge a player just by his stats. I think Jim Les' track record with recruits has been pretty good. I'll trust his judgement on this one, too.

                              Hmmm..

                              I may be too critical...

                              I may be too conspiratorial...

                              I may.... ahh, whatever.

                              IMO:

Grassman = Wolf (dressed as a sheep)

Get off the negativity and get on the bandwagon.

I notice Barry Hinson just recently signed a junior college power forward to strengthen his team. Dextroy Mansell, a 6'7", 215 pound forward from Williston State JC in Williston, ND, helped lead his team to the 16 team NJCAA championship tournament.

Page Not Found (404): It looks like you're lost... The page you are looking for no longer exists.

Hinson and the Bears' fans are excited about his addition to their team, despite the fact that for the season he averaged just 13 points and 8 rebounds a game. Pretty similar numbers to Matt Salley's.
But Mansell's free throw percentage was 32%, and his 3 point percentage was 0%. He makes Matt Salley look like Steve Kerr!
