Ok ER, you made me curious on this one. Going along with your devil's advocate theory, why would BU publicly announce that Ruff would practice with the team?
Good question...can't come up with a devil's advocate theory on that one.
I agree fully that it would seem odd to reinstate Ruff to practice with the team if they had no intention of reinstating him to game play...

Yeah, it would almost seem counterproductive to have him practice if he's not going to be reinstated to play. It would make more sense to get more work in for the other players.

Strange indeed...
I don't think it's an indication that he'll be reinstated. It just keeps open the possibility that he can be reinstated.

I agree... BU is getting all the facts together from all sides before they make a decision. This buys the administration more time and still allows Ruffin to be honored on Senior night. I also think this can silence some of the critics out there by having Ruffin sit out a meaningful game and not count the game he sat out while in jail as a suspended game.
I havent posted much on this as I want to see the facts. That being said, my gut instinct tells me that Ruffin will be cleared of the charges brought against him. Now I'll go back to reading more posts.
Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final
???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

I don't think anyone was debating whether or not it should count. It was just a matter of the semantics of the whole situation. In either case, he was going down as a DNP in the box score.

You know, that's probably the best explanation I have read yet. The more I think about it, I have that feeling that there may be some descrepencies between both sides and this could end up either way. Hopefully the administration can come to a final decision in a timely manner.
As I stated in another post, I will give Ruffin a standing ovation as well as Salley and Crouch. Like so many others have stated, he has done so much for this program that he deserves the honor of the standing O. And it makes me proud to know that many of the posters on this forum will be doing the same thing tomorrow night.
I will stand and cheer for DR, not for what happened last weekend, but for everything he has accomplished in the past 4-5 years, both personally and for the BU program.
Just think.... there will be a HUGE standing O for Jamar Smith, a CONVICTED FELON... but we have people saying they are not sure if they wanna applaud a player on Senior Night because of a misdemeaner accusation.
I actually spoke with a friend who is a police officer whose day in and day out course of employment involves domestic abuse.
He said this.....and I will quote as accurately as I can recall... and these answers are in a general sense, as he is NOT involved with the Ruffin case.
It is a bit unusual for a first time domestic abuse case for the defendant to get booked into jail and then have to post bond. In many cases, especially where he isn't going to go right back into the home situation where the complaintant lives, he would have expected to just see the defendant booked and then given a notice to appear.
So, quite certainly DR is being given NO SPECIAL TREATMENT, and I hope we don't hear people using that haggard line that he's getting treated special because he's somebody.
NOPE, DR is being treated as strictly as the system generally allows for a first time domestic case with minimal injury.
Even the posting of $3000 bond is considered unusual for the first time offenders with no record,
but it does not signal a fear the defendant will flee since most people can easily make the $300 required to get out of jail,
and since many first time defendants don't even get bond, they get released with a court date, then it is obvious the judge wants to be on the side of strictness so no issue of leniency is brought up.
It suggests that a defendant is clearly NOT considered either to be a flight risk nor a threat to repeat the act or else bond would have set much,
much higher, as is seen in any case you want to look up where such is the case.
Daniel deserves a HUGE ovation. As has been said before...if the administration thought he was guilty of a crime they wouldn't put him out there as the face of the program in front of 11,000 people. I think the interesting thing will be whether or not they let him speak after the game and what he will say.
I don't smoke weed...I smoke dudes like you on the bball court
