  • I think it will be a one game suspension, and the university acted so quickly to suspend him so they could make that suspension the UWM game.

Then you have presumed he is guilty even without knowing the facts?

      Per PJ Star article......
      "misdemeanor charge of domestic battery"

whoa.....then this differs in a HUGE way from one of the supposedly strong sources that some people have saying he was booked on a felony charge.
( I heard this from at least 3 different supposedly well-informed people at the game and have seen it several times on the "other" board, and as you will now see, many of those threads have been removed from the PJ Star board because of horribly inaccurate and hostile posts)
I think this proves unequivocally that the people posting hearsay should just shut up and apologize to Daniel Ruffin, and maybe to other board posters as well.

I don't think this will be a problem with all the local BU alums and supporters who are attorneys.

        • I just cant shake the feeling that something fishy is going on here.

Look at it like this. Ruffin has played so many games year after year with teams that include players with overinflated egos. These guys will rub it in Ruffins face and act all holy to him when they make a good play and Ruffin ignores it like it didnt happen. In a competitive arena with 11k fans cheering you on doesnt get you to act on your anger, this incident DOES NOT sound right.

          • After hearing the reports last night and then reading more of them today I believe everyone should give D.Ruffin a chance to tell or hear his side of the story, most people don:t realize that even if the police did not totally believe the womans story the law requires them to arrest Ruffin on suspicion and then it is up the the states attorney on whether to pursue charges , we should at least hear his side of the story monday.

This could apply to both parties in the situation. Les publicly said "I've known him since he was 5 or 6 and we have to let this play out". To me that just says "I know the story, I cant say anything, so just wait".

I'm hoping as much as the rest and yes that is exactly what I was hinting at. You never know what someone is capable when strong emotions (men or women) are in the mix and there are always 2 stories to an incident. We can only speculate at this point what happened.

Unless this goes to trial, I don't think we're going to hear Ruffin's side of the story anytime soon, if at all.

If all charges get dropped that would mean the charges in the first place werent warranted and thus would be a false police report. If the charges against him are dropped, I wouldnt be surprised if there were charges placed against the accuser.

While this may be what should happen, I highly doubt any charges would be brought against the accuser. If nothing else because of the publicity of the case. Being close the domestic abuse prevention and response for a good part of my life I know the slippery slope this could bring. Part of the problem with domestic abuse now is that victims are so afraid to report it. If it becomes commonplace for dropped charges to be returned with charges against the accuser this would be a major step backwards in the little progress that has been made and perpetuate the current problem.

According to a few lawyers I talked to that almost never happens. It is very difficult to charge someone with making a false report if the police found probable cause to make the arrest in the first place.

                            • No way...it was the police who sought charges after the interview with the woman. If charges are dropped against DR no way anyone would pursue charges against the woman.

                              • If the chareges are dropped does that mean that the school will remove his suspension? That is the real question. The school does not have the same standards as the law and discreation is completely in the hands of President Glasser.
