Ruffin out?

I too am late to the game with this one. When I found out, I first was in denial, then all I felt was disgust. It is not our place, nor the media's, to decided guilt or innocence in the case of the domestic battery, but I agree that, as a senior, captain, star, etc., it was Daniel's responsibility to not put himself (and his team) in a place where this could even be possible.
At this point, I just feel bad for JC, Matt and the rest of the team -- what a way to ruin the rest of the season, including Senior Night and the MVC Tourney.
Whatever we may feel about this, what's important right now, tonight, is that we go out and support the players who are not in county lock up. They'll need all the lift they can get.

This is another case of we have not heard both sides of the story; I would like to hear at least what Daniel says happened before reaching any conclusions, domestic dispute cases are usually not as bad as what initial reports come out so lets at least give him the benefit of the doubt , hopefully this will all get straightened out by sunday.
I am starting to wonder if our program is jinxed as of all the injuries and other setbacks we continue to have, I can only hope that are players can focus on the game tonight as we try to move on from yet another major distraction.

I have posted my opinion numerous places, and it is consistent time, and time, and time again.....unlike the opinions of people who are self serving.
I said BU holds its athletes to standards higher than apparently most other institutions do.
I don't know if the charges have any validity, but I applaud that the school has acted immediately unlike, as Da Coach said, other schools.
If domestic issues automatically disqualify a person for life from any useful or gainful activity, then schools like Memphis and Mizzou wouldn't have enough players to field a team.
This is a rare event at BU and the school is dealing properly with it.
None of us knows the truth, so I, for one, don't plan to judge the kid based on hearsay, like apparently most people do.
Again, few people on any message board have been as consistent in any arena as I have been in this one.
The athletes should and must behave or they forfeit their right to play ball for the school. Most schools don't do it that way, most just ignore the offenses until they happen repeatedly and the coach is forced by public pressure to act. Anyone remember the 4 or 5 times Mike Taylor ran afoul of the law at Iowa State, and the multiple DUI's at certain schools, and the 6-8 players at Memphis who have had repeated serious legal issues, and the felonies at Georgia and UIUC?
It's never been about the players, it has been about the ridiculously soft discipline and phony lip-service zero-tolerance policies that coaches don't have the guts to enforce since they covet the wins and the talent more than the discipline.
That simply does NOT happen at BU and the difference is clear to anyone who wants to see it.

Maybe some fans will never be able to forgive a player for something like this, but many fans and certainly the coaches accept these kids like they are their own kids.
If something like this happened to your own kid you would never think of turning your back on them. The case must be allowed to play out, and I trust things will be handled properly. But we will still be supportive of Daniel. Can we start winning soon?

He didn't say all fans feel that way about the players, he said "many" and he is right.
If you are one who doesn't care much for the players other than what they can do for you, then you are not included in his "many".
and please BraveE, don't come on here masquerading as a Bradley fan and take slams at the people on BradleyFans.

If he was my kid I'd get him out of jail, ask him what really happened, get him the best lawyer possible and then hug him. There is no indication that he is a bad person, just that he made a monumental mistake. If he did do the crime he will pay for it and if for some reason he is not guilty he is still going to pay."Educate and inform the whole mass of the people...they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."

Although the timestamp still says 11:22am, it appears the story has been updated on pjstar.com, as a couple other times are mentioned. I may have missed these details when I originally read it, but I think they changed or updated the story that they had posted earlier.
Posted on 02/23 at 11:22 AM
PEORIA ??” Bradley University senior basketball player Daniel Ruffin was arrested before dawn this morning on a charge of domestic battery, prompting his suspension from the team for an indefinite period, according to police and the university??™s athletic department.
The Journal Star learned Ruffin, 23, was arrested at 5:30 a.m. on a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery and, through midday, remained at Peoria County Jail with bond still not set.
Details of the actions that led to his arrest remained unavailable this afternoon from city police, who referred inqueries to the university.
Police, however, were called at about 3:20 a.m.to Ruffin??™s apartment at 908 Frink St. and talked there to a 20-year-old woman before taking Ruffin into custody, police said. The incident that prompted the call took place about 2:30 a.m., police said.
The alleged victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries, police said, but further details were unavailable from those hospitals.
The status of Ruffin??™s availibility to play in future Bradley games this season will be based on a review of his arrest and the alleged incident, the university said.
???With high expectations of our student-athletes, this situation is extremely disappointing news to all,??? Bradley athletics director Ken Kavanagh said.
Read more about this story in Sunday??™s Journal Star.

If we wasnt on the basketball team but just a regular student how much support would he get? Also he is 23 and a college graduate he is not a kid by any standard.
I don't doubt for a second that if Daniel was introduced tonight, or on Tuesday at Senior Night, that he would receive a rousing ovation of support. Do you disagree? That's not to say that any fans condone the activity he is being accused of, but that fans support the players and don't abandon them.

Also, if they were called there at 3:20am and he was arrested at 5:30am, is it normal procedure for the investigation to take over 2 hours before he was arrested? I would think if the female had injuries that warranted going to the hospital, they would've arrested him sooner than 2 hours after they got there. There is obviously more to the story that will be coming out...let's just hope and pray that, as unlikely as it may seem, good news will come out in the details.
