  • Drake picks up a juco commitment

Juco recruit Craig Stanley, a 5'10", 170 pound point guard at Collin County CC in Texas (D1 juco), has committed to Drake. He will have 2 years of eligibility.

    Craig Stanley profile--

    Premium article from TexasHoops.com--

The article reports that Craig Stanley didn't get any Division 1 offers out of Plano West High School in 2006. So he went to Collin County CC and has done very well there. He visited Drake on a recruiting trip earlier this week (too bad he saw his new team get whipped by Bradley!) and just committed to Drake this morning (2/22).
He is averaging 11.3 points and 5.6 assists, and shooting 33.3% from three point range this season at Collin County. His other offer was from St. Bonaventure.

Even though the LOI signing period ended a week ago, Drake is just now announcing that Craig Stanley has signed

One other roster adjustment at Drake....one of their juco kids, Ryan Daniels, a kid who came last year as
a soph from Butler CC, has left the team. No word on details or where he might be headed.
Here is the updated 2008-2009 Drake roster

Also, Logan Stutz, the 6-8 brother of Wichita signee Garrett Stutz, was going to walk on at Wichita to be with his brother.
Logan would be coming in as a spohomore, as he just finished one year at Butler CC in Kansas, but he has instead opted to play at DII Washburn Univ.

Daniels was, to put it mildly, a recruiting mistake. They signed him before he had played a single game in juco, and it became obvious fairly quickly that he wasn't the player he thought he was. He struggled to even get off the bench for a below average juco squad in Kansas, and averaged 5 ppg for the season, a lousy shooting percentage, and an assist:TO ratio of less than 1:1.

I had a chance to see him play in summer league in Des Moines last year, and he was clearly in over his head at the MVC level. He struggled to get playing time even in summer league. He played in at least one of Drake's exhibition games, and then didn't play again. I'm glad that he will not be tying up a valuable scholarship at Drake for three more years.

          DU Bulldog-
thanks for the extra info, and I have a request ..

keep us updated with any reports you might have of the summer leagues in Iowa. In the past I have found it difficult to locate reports from the Prime Time League (Iowa City) and the other summer league (Capital City League) in Des Moines.

          thanks.....
