I don't know if it is true or false, I just want to be careful and differentiate what is confirmed by first hand accounts, vs. what is being said by someone who heard someone who overheard a report of something.....which is what hearsay is.

Here is another story about the players not wanting to play if Sampson is fired. Apparently JaMarcus Ellis is the one who got up and left during the meeting and the players say they will follow whatever DJ White does.

I don't think the players are going to "boycott" the rest of the season. In speaking to one of the players (I guess this is hearsay so I shouldn't even type it) he said that DJ and Gordon just want to make their run in the tourney this year because it's their last year. I can't imagine that has changed.

Do we really know for sure...
there is such a thing as "Corporate Law" and "Contract Law", and there are statutes that cover it and there is some that's federal and most is state to state.
How do we really know what signed and LEGAL agreements that Kelvin Sampson has violated. If he has, then he may be held in violation and even in contempt if it goes that far. It is quite possible that some sugned and attested statements of his have sworn he is telling the truth to the investigators of Ice Miller and NCAA. If it found that he did indeed lie, then again, it could be taken to court and proven he violated contract law.
Therefore....to unequivocally state that he has done nothing "illegal" it at least irresponsible, and at most quite possibly dead wrong.

Well some people come from a family of Doctors but I happen to come from a family of lawyers and having just consulted two of them I can say my intial statement that "nobody is going to jail" is 100% accurate. Thier is no similarity between this and Enron. Enron was a publicly traded company whos leaders manipulated the books to defraud people among other things. Sampson made more phone calls then he was supposed and only viloated NCAA rules. The NCAA is a private orgainization whos investgators have no legal authority. NCAA rules are not laws and therefore can carry no criminal penalty. In addtion thier really cant be a civil suit because a victum would have to prove damages. So in this case based on the advice of my attorney, I would say I am dead right.

Now the more interesting question is what sort of procedures indiana is going to have to do to fire sampson, as he is a state employee. They cant just fire him cause the NCAA says so. for an interesting similarity, look at Jerry Tarkanian

Yeah it's strange to say "it's their last year". One guy is a senior, 22-year old captain and the other is a freshmen 19 - year old. Both gone after this year.

"I talked to Jamarcus about four days ago. Jamarcus went there to play for coach Sampson. I think the players' point is, they went there to play for coach Sampson. It's not fair to the players. You can see if they do it at the end of the season, but it's not fair now. They want to play for him," Heiar said.

This is disturbing in that these kids don't distinguish between right and wrong behavior and only care about what's "fair" for them. Hopefully at some point they will get a better handle on the concept of "fair / not fair" and understand that are repercussions for people who cheat ... and the victims are the people who trusted them.

IU did not treat the players unfairly, KS is one who betrayed these players' trust by violating recruitment rules. The players should be upset with Sampson for not conducting himself in a way that he could fulfill his commitement to the players. IU made a huge mistake hiring this guy and Kelvin made a huge mistake by betraying his players' trust.

As we have seen, over 60 DI coaching changes take place every year,
and maybe it is not "fair" to the players, but it is life...get used to it.
If they want to blame somenoe, then lay the blame on the guy who broke the rules hundreds of times, and then lied about it, he's the one who brought the situtaion to this point.
I, for one, still don't understand why IU didn't just fire him last fall when all this stuff was known.
Why did it take the NCAA threatening to severely penalize the program before they acted.
To me it shows that winning came before ethics to those in charge there, to the fans, and even to the players who were free to go anywhere they wanted.

I agree, its amazing that a school like IU would hire a guy like Sampson. Im sure they would be happy to deal the problems Bobby Knight gave them over this crap

I'm only starting to warm up to Bruce Pearl. I like him alright at Tennessee and he was ok at UWM, but I don't think I'm ready to see him coach in the B10 for obvious reasons
