I also thought the T was "designed" by Les, and in this case effective. Sometimes it's right to get the T, to change the refs behavior, and show the players you're there for them. It "worked" last night.

I think the T was appropriate and is often used by coaches to get their team to play harder and to allow the coach to vent...

But since Dana doesn't do it, I vote we put Jim in time-out...

        Bad T

Well I know this will go over well, but I thought the ref made the right call. I thought Ruff grabbed him by the waist and pulled him down after he was stumbling. Fire away everyone.

Maybe so. The bottom line is that they were getting the debatable calls and we weren't.

Emeneker, Houston, and Young were simply putting their heads down and driving as hard as they could to the hoop.

If they are going to get free throws or a basket each time and NEVER have to be worried about being called for traveling or an offensive foul, it is a HUGE advantage.

On the flip side. Their players were blocking our shots from behind and bodying like crazy if we went anywhere near the basket.

JL just wanted his players to have a fair shake at guarding against the drive. And of course would like to get a call or two on our end when Sam Man and Ruff made their drives.

Then you didnt see the play either in real time or in the replay because both were very clear in that Ruffin did not have his hands anywhere near the player. The Drake player was out of control fell and should have been called for traveling.

I was referring to Versace with my post. A lot of coaches use the technical foul to fire up their team or to get their point across to the refs, but Versace was one of the best coaches that I have seen who used the technical foul to his advantage.

I believe the T on JL last night was called by Kip Kissinger. If he was far away from JL when he made the call I would not be surprised. As I recall, he is the same official that T'd up JL at Butler. On that one JL was talking to another official and KK made the call from the other side of the floor.

                Anyone else recall this?

While I agree 100% that the officiating was pretty awful and certainly didn't seem to be going BU's way, it really irks me when our coach loses his composure like that. You very rarely see successful, veteran coaches do that. I've never seen Dana do that (I am sorry to keep bringing him up, but he's the gold standard in our league). It happens too often with Jim, and I just don't like it. We all would be pretty mad if we lost by 1, because those 2 points we gave them on that T were very unnecessary. Again, not trying to be negative, but we need to be above that. I'm glad tonight we found a way.
IMO there are times when a coach needs to argue a point with a ref. The call last night was horrible, DR did not even attempt to touch the guy much less hold him as was the call. The ref was completely out of position to make that call. JL had every right to question the call. Now I don't know what was said, if he cursed at the ref or called him a name, then that is out of hand. But, IMO sometimes a coach needs to show his team he is going to fight for them. IMO last night the T was the turning point in the game. Up to that point we were playing flat and quickly losing hold on the game. JL argued a call got a T for it and the team responded. I have no problem with the T.
Some see a hopeless end, while others see an endless hope.

It was Kissinger and Pollard was the other ref that kept calling us for charging fouls when in fact Korver was not set and kept moving under our guys.

kissinger is one of the worst officials in the valley, hands down. I dread watching a game every time i see him in those zebra stripes.
