  • JL's Technical

After JL's Technical Foul, the tide turned for Bradley. Does anyone have the score from that point on? I have no idea what he did, but if it was on purpose, and it probably was, BU went on a role.

He got the technical for jawing with one of the refs. Ironically, the official who was farthest away issued the tech, while the other two refs who were close to to Coach just stood there and ignored him.

it was after a terrible call against Ruff.....the DU player was out of control..traveled and Ruff got the foul....honestly I was thinking that the T would come back to haunt them....

we lose by 1 point and that T is huge....but would we have been there without it?

tough call....not one I could make for sure

I thought that was the straw that broke the camel's back and a huge miscall, but it turned out great!

I don't want to get negative on such a great night, but I think JL's technical foul was stupid. While I agree 100% that the officiating was pretty awful and certainly didn't seem to be going BU's way, it really irks me when our coach loses his composure like that. You very rarely see successful, veteran coaches do that. I've never seen Dana do that (I am sorry to keep bringing him up, but he's the gold standard in our league). It happens too often with Jim, and I just don't like it. We all would be pretty mad if we lost by 1, because those 2 points we gave them on that T were very unnecessary. Again, not trying to be negative, but we need to be above that. I'm glad tonight we found a way.

I would much rather have the coach get it than a player. We were getting bad calls before that, and the calls seemed to get better after that. While it is bad to lose the 2 points, the T seemed to motivate the team (at least they played much better after it). Some coaches use T's to kick their team in the butt (old Bobby Knight). Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, but at that point in the game it at least seemed to do something. Kind of like Lou kicking his hat.

I remember a certrain former Bradley coach who used to fire up his team by getting T'd up.

I agree, I would much rather see JL receiving this than any of the players. I think the players respond well to these "warranted" technicals. I feel the only reason he did this was to spark the kids. One thing I will give JL credit for, and that is always sticking up for his troops.

The call was by the side official across the court after Emmenaker fell to the ground. It was simply the worst of several bad calls tonight. How an official can from the sideline see something that the official directly under the basket cant is beyond me. JL's timing on the T wasnt the best their free throws took it to a 12 point lead but it did fire us up a bit as we went on a nice run.

But the call was horrible to say the least.

Versace, Albeck, Molinari, and Les have all used it to the teams advantage.

I don't know about Stowell or his predecessors.

                        I agree 100%.

In a hard fought well played game sometimes the officials can get caught up in the the momentum of the home team and begin to hose you.

If you as the coach really have a case that you are beginning to get screwed (as the Braves were last night IMHO during Drakes run). You can force the officials to T you up.

If played right you limit the damage by doing this when the other team will already regain possesion.

A good crew won't hold grudges like a bad one will and in many cases you can change the momentum of the game a bit as the officials try to even things up.

I would bet that if you look at the runs during the second half last night you would see the calls and scoring trend back toward BU last night. If I remember we were down around 11 at the time of the technical.

IMO JL rather than watch his team get blown out in what the "Celebration of Drake" game. He rolled the dice and the officials and his players responded. The gamble payed off.

The refs were making a lot of bad calls and it is up to coach Les to stick up for his players, I have no problem with him getting a T when I thought Drake was getting most of the calls in the 1st half which kept us from having a nice lead at the half, most of the charging calls were bad and then after the call on Ruffin was made someone needed to say something and after he did it seemed like the game was called a lot more evenly.

Snell and the gang were saying that there was one official, in particular, that was baiting Les by asking "Wnat? What did you say?" They said the other two officials were good officials, in general.

I imagine the "T" may have been inevitable...............Les just got it at the time of HIS choosing
