MM says "Pretty soon, the CBI has the best teams, expands to 32. NIT loses interest and dies."

That seems like a horrible scenario. No more NIT. NIT used to be the Grand Daddy. There was a time when Bradley chose NIT over NCAA (certainly wouldn't happen today).

Would future generations look up at the NIT banners in the rafters at Carver and think those accomplishments are from a by-gone era from a dead tournament and not really that impressive?

      Future generations???

We have current generations. Some kids running around thinking the game of basketball started 10-15 years ago. Heck, there's even one guy on here who thinks Indiana and their tradition is from accomplishments from a by-gone era and not really impressive.

But, If I were to compare it to the D-1 FBS post season it would have to rank somewhere between the Meineke-Car-Care Bowl and the Motor City Bowl. Great, you can tell your team and the imediate fans that we are in the post season. But other than the team and Imediate fans no one else on the planet cares.
I agree with your overall point, but the Meineke Car Care Bowl was a great matchup between a ranked team and a great team that gets no respect on the national scene. The best team won. Go Demon Deacons!

Those are the types of things that happen in the NCAA and NIT.

Hey, I hope you're right. If we do get into the CBI tourney, I hope we get at least a couple of home games.

Looking at the RPI's last year, the top 60 guaranteed an NIT trip. The top 70 virtually guaranteed the NIT, while 71 to 100 virtually guaranteed some sort of post season, more likely the CBI.

However, if what you and others are saying is true and the CBI gets first crack at the NCAA leftovers, it could be MIGHTY interesting as to which team gets to what tourney and who gets to host games. This could be a very interesting "mess"!

Mostly the seeding last year irked me. . .the new committee the NIT uses really slighted us IMO, and in the process disrespected probably its most prolific and more important, loyal participants.

I in no way want to jeopardize our relationship with the NIT, however, I think they sent a message to us last year that in spite of our tradition with them, they will favor BCS schools to an extent. We should have been a 1 or 2 last year. Instead we go on the road in the 2nd round, while DePaul (a team we were far superior to) gets a better seed and almost cruises all the way to Madison Square Garden.

If we get an unfavorable seed that puts us on the road in either the first or second round of the NIT, versus home court all the way to the finals in the CBI, in my mind its a no-brainer to take the latter. It would also be a wonderful way for local products Ruffin and Crouch to end their careers in front of their hometown fans.

As for no TV for the CBI, that's merely a luxury. While it was nice to have the 2nd round on ESPN last year, we made serious compromises and likely put ourselves at a disadavantage to get their early for the sake of TV. Also for the CBI, we can make our own TV arrangements versus likely not getting any TV at all.

I'm keeping an open mind about it.

I echo almost every word Squirrel typed above. We were screwed last year by the old codgers

The NIT now that is fully owned and run by the NCAA will no longer consider past relationships, home venues, and attendances like the old NIT did. Decisions on selections, seedings, and pairings will be made using the same criteria they use for the NCAA tournament. And they will use those criteria loosely and variably enough to benefit the big boys. With the exception of 2005, the NCAA has shown a disdain for midmajors, and a preference for their friends in the BCS. They use the RPI when it benefits the major schools, then downplay it when it benefits the midmajors. Note the teams that have been excluded from the NCAA with RPI's under 40 are nearly all the midmajors like Missouri State, etc.
