I'm not a doctor, but I think with the plate in place the issue won't be it healing properly, but rather how much pain can be tolerated and how much motion and flexibility AW has. Everyone's pain tolerance is different, but AW is a tough kid. I personally think he will be back for the MVC Tournament because of the nature of the injury and the nature of the treatment. Hopefully, he's back for a Friday game rather than a Thursday one.

Does anyone know of any other players who have had a similar injury, how long they were out, if and how they were able to play with it? I remember JJ Tauai having a broken left hand for the last month of last season, but obviously it was a different kind of break than AW's.

I'm not sure how similar the hand injury is...but LD Williams (6'4" guard, Wake Forest) broke the metacarpal in his right hand (reports don't say which one) on January 22nd against Clemson. After minor surgery (again, very few details), he was projected to return in 3 weeks (although I have read that this injury can take 6-8 weeks to heal). On February 4th, he had x-rays taken, and was cleared to shoot and dribble with his right hand in practice. On February 13th, he was then cleared to play. He was still experiencing soreness, but he used a stimulator on his hand every night to reduce the soreness and build calcium around the bone for healing. After being cleared, he played 20 minutes on 2/14 against FSU and 35 minutes on 2/17 against Duke. So, it was 14 days until he was practicing with it and 23 days until he was back in games.

If Andrew can recover a few days quicker than LD, then he'll be good for the MVC tournament. However, more important than the tournament is Andrew's complete recovery. I will definitely miss seeing him on the court and hope he gets well soon!

Great info. Obviously I want AW to be healthy and as pain-free as possible, but I expect to see him play in St. Louis. No pun intended here, but after tonight perhaps the breaks are going to start falling our way. How about BU weathers this injury until St. Louis, and we get AW back for our tourney run? Sounds good to me!
