  • MVC Tournament Discussion time

Ok - I know there has been some discussion in other threads, but I am curious the STL plans...

    1) Where is everyone staying?

    2) What day is everyone going down?

    3) Favorite bars/pubs and things to do?

    4) Other than the basketball games, what does everyone do in the evenings when the Braves are not playing?

I am really excited again to return to STL for the tournament. This is always one of my favorite weekends. I hope to see and meet many of you guys/gals..

    Go Braves!

I will be staying at the same hotel as the team, the Renaissance Grand.
I will be going down Friday, unless Bradley plays Thursday, which is now unlikely.
We usualy eat at TGIF downtown, Laclede's Landing, and the restaurants in The Hill area. Bradley usually has fan rallys in the bar at the Sheraton across the street from the Scottrade Center.
Some of the people with us will be visiting the gambling boat, and shopping at various locations.

      1) Hampton Inn Union Station. (I know others are saying there, we need to be sure to pick a meeting point here in a week or so)

      2)Friday AM

3,4) Bars-Maggie O'Briens Union Station (Home Base), Sheraton Bar (Federko's?), Hampton Inn Syborg's
Excursions- Soulard District (Joanie's Pizza, McGurk's Irish Bar)

**As mentioned in a previous post, I think we may venture downtown to the Ball Park area a little more this year. Things look to be moving that there away from Union Station and nearer the ball park. We enjoy Hrabosky's and Paddy-O's and I know that Hooter's has moved there from Union Station.

We are not big "Landing" people. I know people like dueling Piano bars, but I go to so many of those places on business that the act is wearing me out.

        1) Holiday Inn Conference Center-thingy. Just around the corner from the Renaissance Grand.

        2) Thursday early PM.

        3) Don't know StL very well, only been twice. Will steal ideas from here.

        4) For my party, non-basketball activities will likely include heavy drinking and various other forms of debauchery.

1.) Our group of four is staying at the Crowne Plaza Downtown St. Louis (Won this hotel room through a recent Priceline bid)

2.) Leaving Peoria on mid-afternoon of Thursday (March 6th)

3.) We usually spent a lot of time at the Scottrade Center. Plus- they have added a new "Fan Fest" this year for adults. It's going to be right outside the arena (DJ's, Beverages, Games, Etc..). I'm sure we'll head over to the Landing and other hot spots throughout downtown.

4.) We may do some shopping and might head over to the boat. The new casino at the Four Seasons is open too.

I am leaving Houston on Wednesday afternoon.

            Staying at the Renaissance Grand.

There is quite a lot to do, the new casino is supposed to be wonderful. When I was up there in August for a few Cardinals games there wasnt a lot near the ball park other then Harboskys and the ususal places like the Marriott, Shanonns and Fridays.

But, there is a lot of Basketball to be seen, so the Scotrade center will be a focus.

Seems those of us here on the board should figure out one place to meet to get "focused", especially on Friday.

Double D - we're also at the Hampton Inn Union Station. Perfect place to stay - easy walk to the games cutting through Union Station. Let me know where you guys are planning to be to meet, etc.

We usually have 4-5 guys.. may swell to six this year...

Hampton Inn is where we stay- good walk after games
Maggie O'Brien's is a fun place to hang...
We might go out once to the casino- but we usually hang home and play card game
We also have fun with mini-wagers($1) for first player to score, points at half, etc.. Helps liven up the non-BU games...

We always do the whole weekend- so we will leave P-Town Thursday at noon to catch the play-in action...
???We all want Bradley to win. If our methods and visions for that are different, then so be it. Don't ever attempt to tell me I am not a fan!???

I'm in. I say we either meet in the lobby of the Hampton Inn on Friday AM or at Maggie O'Briens bar. Hopefully we can get checked in or at least park and drop off our bags at the Hampton before Noon on Friday.

Of course I nominate Maggie's bar as "Home Base" after we hook up!

Forget the hotel I will be staying at.

                    Heading down Thursday afternoon.

I want to eat some Imo's pizza at least 1x.

Will be hitting McGurk's a lot.

(Fish7 - we outta get together Thursday for a pint down there at McGurks. You like Jimmy's... you'll really like McGurks)

                      1. Rennaisance Grand

                      2. Probably going down Friday AM

                      3. Alot of good places to eat, hang out. Patty O's, Caleco's, The Landing. I've never been to Mcgurk's, but after the constant publicity/ build up of the place by MacabreMob, I've gotta check it out!

I will be there, I think i am staying in Collinsville. A little cheaper than downtown for a college student.

Not sure what sort of nightlife I will find myself involved in, but I do plan on touring the brewery and getting some of that "Day fresh Bud Light"

                          1) Hampton Inn

2)6 of us going down, early Thursday- we watch all the games.

                          3) Maggies is our normal hang out after the games. Usually play cards back at the hotel.

4)As Braveman said, we make some small wagers to keep the games exciting.

My favorite weekend of the year. Get to watch a ton of basketball have a few beverages, take money from my friends/family just a good time.
Some see a hopeless end, while others see an endless hope.

Maggies looks like a very good place and very close to the Arena.

McGurk's also looks fun but Solard is a bit of a distance from the Arena and for those of us not using a car.

Id be in for a Maggies stay before/after one of what I hope are many BU games

                              1. Holiday Inn Select Convention Center
                              2. Friday morning unless we play Thursday night (heaven forbid), then Thursday early PM
                              3. Union Station for some of the greatest tacky T-shirt shopping ever and the people watching ... always a good time.
                              4. Beer? Not sure, open for ideas -- this is only my second trip to the tourney and the first one that will be multiple days instead of a one-day, roundtrip deal.
