  • Red Out?

Wasn't today supposed to be a red-out? I hesitate to complain after a game like that, but...

Why can't we get it right? I saw one too many lime-green sweaters in the front rows for my taste. Did anyone watch the Baylor/Texas game tonight? They did a gold-out, and everyone actualy wore gold.

For the most part Carver looked great. But I guess I don't understand why people don't just go ahead and go with it...

I was watching the game on television and mentioned to my son that it didn't look like a red-out to me! I think they look pretty good in person, but the white-outs look so much better on television!
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

Instead of putting a red t-shirt on every seat, they handed them out at the doors. Unfortunately, that meant some entrances ran out of shirts while there were still fans arriving, and other entrances probably had extras. I suspect that accounted for the people who did not seem to have the red t-shirt.

The crowd was pretty good and really got into the game, probably because Bradley was kicking butt right from the start.

I was actually hoping to see more of the student section there today. Great crowd though once it got close to tip off. I thought the stadium was going to be empty at first and was wondering what was going on, but then they showed up. BU gave the crowd a great showing of what this team could be like if they would play like this all the time. I'm glad I was there to see the domination that BU put on today.

I think that the way the shirts were distributed was part of the problem, but I think the general idea may have become a little stale.

When you have several events like this rather than one or maybe two a year it may grow a little old. Esp. on a Sat afternoon, where in Peoria I believe you have quite a few "college hoop" fans who come to the game rather than 100% BU die hards.

Hey I am as enthusiastic as they come, but first I ALWAYS wear red and second I have a stack of red and or white t shirts a mile high at home!

On a similar note, the game was listed as a sellout, but I saw some empty seats in the upper ends of the arena. They didn't look like "singles" or ubstructed view either. I wonder how the process for naming a game SOLD OUT works?

I agree...they handed out the t-shirts at the door when people entered, but...

lots of people either didn't see the people handing them out and walked right by, or didn't care, perhaps because they had enough t-shirts.
I saw lots of people entering the arena without a t-shirt, so they were often the green and blue people.
In the past the shirts were at the seats, so the fans literally had to pick it up to even sit down, so they were more likey to put it on.

It was pretty red yesterday, but you will always have those people that just fo whatever they want to do. They don't stand when they should, if you stand, you are a nuisance to them. Then you have the people that just "gab" the whole game. Bradley basketball, for years, has just been a social gathering. It is what it is. I've watched some people have their backs to the court the whole game and just talk the whole time. I have no idea why people go to games without red on. It boggles my mind, but they do. This will forever be the case. We will be talking about this 10 years down the road. It's like beating a dead horse. It will never cease and it really is a shame. Oh well. GO BU!

The main problem is people not wanting to put the shirts on as I had to encourage several people in front of me to put them on and also tried to talk some other people that I know into putting them on but they didn"t feel like it was important ; I would say that 85 to 90 % of the arena wore red and I think that is about the best we can expect as not everyone is into BU basketball like the rest of us .

One thing I have suggested....a fancam...has got shot down by a few. Have the camerman zoom in on a non-red wearing fan. Have a cheerleader offer the person a red shirt. The fans will CHEER like crazy if they get said person to don the shirt....if not...boooooing is encouraged

I would also like to see the cheerleaders scour the stands during stoppages in play and hand out more T shirts to those not wearing them.... wave them around and then toss them to the non conformists then move on. Beats the worn out surfboard races.

Having them all ready over the seats though gets the best results from what I have seen...sure lots of work but worth it IMO.

I think that may be the case too. I know it's a big game and you know that it's a big game. But to the general fan, it's a 14-12 ballclub hosting a 17-7 team.

Saturday afternoon draws a different crowd and a different mindset. The game isn't the end of the day. I always wear red, but my wife was dressed in something different because we had a gathering to go to after the game. She wasn't going to wear a red tshirt.

I think the nice part of all these free tshirt giveaways is that I'm seeing them around town. The gym I go to used to be flooded with orange Illini stuff (for good reason). But the last few years, Bradley shirts seem to be getting more popular and the orange is fading away.

I do appreciate all the promotions that BU does. You only have to look 40 miles down the road to see what no marketing does.

They must count the 8 tubs of popcorn that "manned" the Par-a-dice concourse box suite, too..

During the first half I wondered about the two completely empty rows behind the bench, but they got filled in by the halftime "honories"..

I'm not sure who said it first....but after watching a replay of the game this morning the "red-out" does not come out good on the TV side of the game! The arena looked very dark and the size of the crowd never seems to stand out for some reason the red makes the arena look even darker or like it in a shadow....but if everyone was wearing white it would look a lot better on TV ..........so I've never understood why we wear red when the team plays in the "home whites"? Shouldn't the crowd be in white like the team?:
