Andrew Warren-- broken hand

It is being reported that Andrew will undergo surgery tomorrow (Monday) to put a "plate" into his fractured 2nd metacarpal bone. That is the bone in the hand that leads to the index finger.
He will be sidelined for an undetermined period of time.
BU head athletic trainer Marcus Ohnemus, though, did not rule Warren out for the season.

A plate pretty much holds the bone in place so that it heals together properly. Even a football player that has that kind of surgery is out at least 3-4 weeks. Not to mention any complications that may arise from possible loose screws and the cold may affect his hand with the plate in it. I don't think the starting production will fall off significantly as Sam can score just as well but we lost a big piece off the bench and that's where we'll likely get murdered when it comes tourney time. We'll see though.

Actually, Jason, with a plate, the fracture is fixed pretty securely, as opposed to allowing a fracture to heal by immobilizing such as a cast or splint.
Because the bone is securely fixed, more stress can be put on it fairly soon after surgery than would be allowed with a cast or splint. As long as the bone is healthy, and I am sure it is, there should be no problems with the screws coming loose.
I wouldn't be surprised if AW is able to play with some padding on the hand, maybe as soon as the tournament? We'll have to wait to see what the specialist recommends.

When he is in the game his length getting out in the passing lanes, esp on the wing, has played a big role in our defensive progress.
I hope we see some more of Theron on the wing with RA and MS in the game. We won't be as strong offensively but IMO our improving defense is what will give us the best chance to win on the road and in St. Louis.Get Well Massive Mike! "Once a Brave always a Brave!"
