Players in trouble at Memphis but stuff being swept under the carpet.
The whole thing seems to be pretty well confirmed by people who were there, and yet nothing official in the press about it.
Overall, it is interesting that because they are basketball players, they are getting a pass on this one.
Apparently a relatively minor altercation involving a student shot with a paintball.
The best summary of the events is on page two half way down, but here is a quote:
"A male black student was shot in the face by a paint gun pellet from someone riding in the SUV that fit the description of the one the police pulled over containing Dorsey, Hunt, McGrady and Long. They had also shot at other students as they drove around campus. The student who was hit was irate and wanted to press charges- until he found out they were basketball players. Then he went quiet and backed off. The reason so many University Police officers responded to the pullover of the SUV was because they didn't exactly know what they were dealing with, but they knew that weapons were involved. Now, you can call that a racist overreaction by the pigs, but I happen to think it was the police doing their job. The director of the University Police was told to sweep this under the rug (as has been done on more than one occasion for basketball and football players) and that is that. Because the victim changed his tune and decided he did not want to press charges after all, nothing will be done. They could have all been in very serious trouble. Must be nice for those guys. If I had driven around campus shooting people in the face with a paint gun I would still be at 201 Poplar right now."
