  • ISU at ISU- Redbird starter questionable

Redbird starter Dom Johnson did not travel to Terre Haute with the team. He is questionable for tomorrow's game against the Sycamores. What's worse is that he missed dinner with the team at the Beef House.

Not good news for the Redbirds - at all.

ISU kinda has a good lock on 2nd place, and I hope Jank gives some playing time to Brandon Holtz.

Odzic and Holloway get way more chance and playing time, but note these numbers..........

Holtz.........9.9 minutes per game (only 4.5 in conf games, and he's only appeared in 4 of the last 14 games, 3.3 ppg, 14-34 (41.2%) on 3-pointers.
Odzic........13.4 minutes per game ( has appeared in all 14 conference games), 2.8 ppg, 2-13 (15.4%) on 3-pointers.
Holloway...16 minutes per game (appeared in all conference games, even started one), 20-56 (35.7%) on 3-pointers, 4.7 ppg (4.3 in conf games)

I can't see where Holtz should be losing playing time to anyone else in Dom Johnson's absence.

That's because you are reading a stat sheet and not watching the games. There is more to the game than shooting threes and Holloway and Odzic are both better defenders and better ball handlers than Holtz. Therefore they see more minutes and rightfully so. I like Brandon a lot. He hustles and gives great effort, but he's a stationary shooter in the Valley. That said, he may draw some minutes today. Hopefully his shot is on.
Dinma Odiakosa 6'8 255......The Nigerian Nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 37 points and 27 boards in 2 wins over Bradley. "Will Egolf is 6'9 and he had 4 rebounds. That's not good enough and he's not good enough"....Dick Versace 2/9/10

But I have seen several games, and I am certainly not the only one who wonders why Holtz hasn't gotten more time,
and surely you have seen those others wondering the same thing.
I never said Holtz was all conference, but he is a good player and I am not convinced he isn't as good of a defender as Odzic.

I think Odzic and Holliway are solid reserves. They can both score a little and handle the ball.
My guess is that it is just a numbers game.
