The problem with anyone using foul language at any sporting event is there are usually children at these events and do we want to give them the impression that it is normal to swear at the opposing teams and the officials, I am not saying that I do not yell or boo bad calls by the officials , but I do not curse at them or boo the opposing teams players. Whatever happened to showing up and cheering for your team and showing a little class and good sportsmanship ; It sounds like ISU has let a small number of people try to ruin it for the normal fans as no one should be allowed to act like that in a public place and hopefully they will not let it happen again ; I am not saying that Bradley fans are perfect but I do not believe the AD or President of the university would allow such foul language to be chanted at any event.Comment

I was shocked at how vulgar the fans were at the ISU game (and I'm not old nor do I have kids). It certainly wasn't a small minority of ISU fan at the game either-likely close to 1/2.
The absolutely shocking incident for me was when an ISU fan starting throwing things in our section. I wasn't going to put up with that and went and told an usher who did NOTHING. The fan did stop throwing stuff, but that's unacceptable. Perhaps they don't remember Detroit and that fans CANNOT THROW ANYTHING.
Good job by their administration, but there fans need class. Perhaps thats why they had to go to State.Comment

Maybe the national articles and condemnation of U of I in the Gordon case, caused the ISU folks to be more aware of the issue, and the Kirk Wessler calls and article forced their hands.....
although so far this is only lip-service....we have yet to actually see if a thing has actually changed....or whether they will truly enforce a crackdown or maybe they are only doing this for PR.
....and we may need to wait until next year to find out, as it probably doesn't happen when Evansville comes to town.Comment

I'm happy to see that ISU is trying to correct the situation. I hope that the students realize how many young kids are in the arena to watch the game and stop using the cheer yet this year. Although the you suck cheer might be gone, I did like the your not gonna make it cheer. They should work on that one some more.Comment

The story about the parking lot reminded me of the time at isu we ask an usher where our seats were. He saw we were Bradley fans, but acted real friendly. When we took his directions we found ourselves no where near our seats. We looked back and he was laughing and pointing us out to others. After the Bradley victory we thanked him. He wasn't amused anymore. Division 1 team---Division 3 fans.What part of illegal don't you understand?Comment

Did anybody else read the comments from the ISU alum from Morton that said she was going to throw her ISU sweatshirt in the trash because she was so embarrassed by the way the fans acted at the BU-ISU game. ( it is pretty bad when one of your own makes a statement like this.)Comment

I saw that and was hoping the PJ Star would put it up on their site like they did with Rick LeHew's letter about the player suspensions a couple weeks ago. But it was never posted on the website.
It might explain why their attendance is down so much.Comment

And I think we've carried this to its end, especially since the ISU administration and a lot of their fans (to their credit) have gone overboard to see that things change. We will have to awit to see how much it changes, but I think things are going to better if the ISU administration gets involved.Comment

Even more on fan behavior....apparently, after decades of the same stuff, several D-I coaches have gotten religion and want unruly fan behavior cleaned up.
"In a season when coaches at Indiana and Illinois have issued postgame apologizes for the antics of crowds at home games and the volume of profanity-filled chants from student sections has grown to the point where other schools, including Iowa, have attempted to deal with the matter, coaches believe fan behavior should be addressed.
???I think it is incumbent on each school to regulate its crowd and while nobody wants to dampen student enthusiasm, there is a fine line between nasty comments and cheering for your team,??? Minnesota coach Tubby Smith said.
Smith said it is the vulgarity of some chants that has taken a turn for the worse.
