It doesn't matter how or why or what the circumstances were to get these jobs to the level they are at. The fact is they are where they are and that is indisputable. These are the top jobs. Period.

The point was that Illinois is not in the class of the other 6 jobs I listed and that Crean turned down Illinois has no bearing on what he might say if IU called him.

I couldn't care less about what happened before these programs achieved the status they have achieved based on fan and media perception. the fact is, these are the top jobs. Period. It will take many, many years for that to change if it ever does.
wow...I wouldn't argue Coooksey seems to be the expert here...nobody else's opinion counts

You need to get out of Indiana.

Move to the heart of Kentucky. Let 'em know how much you dislike Indiana, and then you will find a large support group of friends.

Then after a couple nights having jars with the guys, let 'em know how you feel about UIUC. First reaction you will get with a plain serious face... "Are they Div 1?" And I am not kidding. However bad you think it is in Indiana, it is 10-fold in Kentucky.

So in all honsty - get out of Indiana. And I know you are about to (but St Louis won't be 100% friendly for you). But then when you decide to settle down and have a family and live happily ever after.... locate yourself within 30 minutes of UIUC.

haha! We've got a good situation going, within distance to UIUC and BU living in the Spr. area. What more can I ask for? But honestly, I'd move to Kentucky in a heartbeat. Sportswise, wouldn't make too many friends, as I actually like U of L haha! But, Kentucky is a beautiful state with some actual landforms!

I was at U of L game against Georgetown last Saturday and it was fantastic. I sat in the first row right across from Pitino's coaches box about 15 ft fromVitale...and not too far from Erin and watched a great game...

This story quotes BOTH Devin Ebanks (already signed) and Steven Van Treese (their top target), two of Indiana's top recruits, as saying they are rethinking their plans and would not want to go to Indiana.
          No word from Matt Roth.........

Oh...and for a little comedy..........here's one poster on the Indiana Rivals Premium board who wants Royce Waltman,
seriously..............since it is premium.....here is a little of what the thread says.........

"Tell me about Royce Waltman; I'm interested

because of Brownell being mentioned repeatedly as a possibility...... I'm just curious whenever I see Waltman's name.

I'm cautiously open to the possibility of him at IU if we're looking at up-and-coming coaching talent."

If they are considering up and comers ... how about JL? If I was the IU AD and Klepto Kelvin is to be let go, I would have JL on my consideration list ... maybe not at the top of the list, but on the list none-the-less.

I posted yesterday that the sentiment at IU was to keep Sampson through the end of the season and let the investigation play out before firing him. That way they would salvage this season and postseason, even if they get penalized with future postseason bans. Also, part of the reasoning was that they didn't have enough solid proof that Sampson had violated the "just cause" part of his contract to fire him just yet.
Ohio State's fired coach Jim O'Brien sued OSU and won millions in a wrongful termination lawsuit. Even though the ultimate ruling was that he had cheated and that would have been just cause for OSU to fire him, they did so before the final ruling was issued by the NCAA. The court ruled that OSU had violated the contract, because, though all the evidence was there, the NCAA final ruling didn't come until after he was fired.

However, there is now a growing concern among the administration, board of trustees, and big boosters that this is becoming such an embarrassment to Indiana that they have to do something now. They now might place Sampson on suspension, and name an interim coach (probably Dan Dakich), until things play out and they have the ammunition to fire him.

It is the general consensus on both of the main IU premium boards, the boards where all the top fans post, that there just isn't anyone left anywhere who still favors keeping Sampson.

Well JL would be higher than Royce... nothing against JL but he wouldn't be on any list IU has. Kevin Stallings would be a much more likely candidate IMO.

Kevin Stallings is a Purdue guy. No way in 1000 years would the IU faithful accept that.

The finger pointing is under way...........
how could IU NOT know this was going to happen?
In my judgment, the University president and the AD have to take the fall along with Kelvin Sampson, as they put recruiting studs and winning games well ahead of honesty, ethics, and integrity.

Former Indiana assistant Rob Senderoff said Friday that he didn't lie to NCAA investigators when he met with them after he left his position at the school in October.

I guess I can't really blame the fans.
Just because the only thing they care about is winning, but then fans are similar everywhere.
Maybe some of the JL bashers would have loved to have hired Kelvin Sampson instead and be facing this mess?
Maybe it makes having an honest, hard working coach like Coach Les a little more appreciable, huh?

How do you know for sure that he wouldn't be on any list IU has?

Personnally, I'm not in a position to know, but if I was helping IU put together a list of established 15+ year coaches and a list of "up and coming" coaches," I would put JL on the the list of up-and-coming.
