  • Xavier Crawford

Does anyone have any information? I have searched the Internet and the only thing I have found is a couple box scores where he played only a few minutes, did not score and did not have any rebounds. Not real good news since we are losing POB. It also scares me that nothing has really ever come out in the PJS about this guy either. A lot has been said about the kid from Indy, but virtually nothing about Crawford.

Xavier played at a school where he was on a team of high-major recruits (and he was one, by the way), so I don't make too much of playing time. To me it's about size & potential. Here's what recruting analyst Van Coleman said about XC before he verballed to BU:

Coleman's report: "Crawford has gotten stronger and started to add much needed bulk. He has ability to shoot the 3 and used his quickness around the hoop to more than hold his own. He told us that Kansas, Xavier, Utah and Bradley are the schools showing the most interest. My feeling is that's about to change based on the way he scored in Suwanee."

I don't know the status off all the players on his team. I know he is on a team with like 10 DivI recruited players. There is a thread on this board telling you more about him and those issues.

My take on this is.... XC is already signed. Maybe some of the other players are not. So in order to get them signed, they may get more PT and opportunities to score to showcase them to get them signed.

This would make sense for a self-feeding system. Send players to this prep school 'cause they will get the exposure and go DI. More DI signees, then more talent comes to get the exposure and sign DI. Etc.

Anyway, XC, IMO, is gonna be a solid player on the Hilltop as well as in the MVC.

The experience XC gained practicing everyday against talented teammates matters more than the lack of playing time in actual games.

I don't think XC is going to real up to what a lot of us think. The kid is not that good. I have seen him play and he is not ready for the MVC.

I'll stick my neck out and predict he will have a better career than Heemskerk did.

AV, where did you see him? Would like some details if you have time . . . too skinny? Too slow? etc.

I seen him play in Chicago. He is very, very, very skinny and not strong at all. I'm sure after 2 or 3 years he will be fine.

i agree with AV here. I've seen him play against Olivet JV team and he didn't really do anything. I talked to him also..seems like a real nice kid. It was just one game so who knows. maybe he will develop into a Bayo. that would be huge success IMO

I doubt that bouncing around to as many high schools as XC has that he has ever had much of a consistent training or weightlifting regiment. If he can spend the whole summer in Peoria working out with the team and with Ronnie Wright, perhaps he can put on 10-15 pounds and be able to give us something next year. I agree wholeheartedly that if he becomes a 'Bayo-type, it would be a huge success.

Aren't these the kinds of things we heard about POB? Too skinny and not strong enough. Hopefully we can work some of the same magic on XC (apparently Bradley centers only get acronyms for names hehhehe)...

Yes, it's exactly what people said about POB. No one seems to want to believe JL. He seems to think this kid is special.

Great points. Questionable strength, questionable stamina, questionable ability, questionable heart. Yup, sounds like the same M.O. we heard on another center a few years back. I believe that center declared for the NBA Draft last week after just 2 years at BU. Let's hope we get similar results with this one.
