Coach Les,
One of the most discussed and debated players this year has been David Collins. When recruited, I think all fans realized that he would show up on the Hilltop with some development needs. But BU had seen the benefits of another 7-footer, Patrick O'Bryant, who also had development needs ... and he turned into an impact player and played an integral role in our recent Sweet 16 season.
In the SPI tournament, BU played two quality teams, Iowa and Vanderbilt. Iowa has a decent inside game and Vandy has a very good inside game. In a very hard fought, physical game against Iowa, David played 15 minutes, was 3-5 from the field, had 3 rebounds, and one block ... not a bad stat line. Against Vanderbilt, which was one of the most exciting games of the year and also a very physical game, David played 17 minutes, was 2-4 from the field, had 5 rebounds (4 of them offensive), and two blocks. A very impressive night for a new player in just his sixth game at BU.
Please explain for all the Bradley fans why David's playing time has dropped off so dramatically. Has he regressed that dramatically since the 5th and 6th game of the year that he gets no playing against an oppenent like Indiana State, a team that we should have dominated on the boards? Also, David's dramatic drop in playing time inexplicably coincided with the time of Daniel's injury. To the layman, one might have expected Collins' playing time to have actually increased with Daniel on the bench because BU might have started to emphasize an inside game to take the pressure off a freshman point guard subbing for Daniel. Thank you
