  • Williamsfield player scores 56

Anyone going after this Patrick Lewis from Williamsfield? Have to have decent skill to score 56 at any level even if it is from a small A school.

Williamsfield always has pretty good teams despite being a very small school...
but this game was vs. DePue, also a very small school, and also a very, very weak team.
Here's what bothers me about this game....it was a 40 point blowout!

The article clearly points out that 18 of Patrick Lewis' 56 points were scored in the 4th quarter...

Gimme a freakin' break...by the 4th quarter.....an already very weak DePue team had flooded their bench with deep reserves, and had inexperienced freshmen in the game, and yet Williamsfield still has their stud in the game chuckin' up threes to be sure he gets his point total over 50, long, long after the game was done and decided and the DePue kids had thrown in the towel!!!
Wow, this is really fine sportsmanship....going just for personal glory and records....!!

In case you think I am exaggerating...read the coverage out of Galesburg, in which the kid tells how he was trying to catch up to his brother's single game record of 54 points in one game....this seems to really be the main thing here, as the game was pretty much out of reach after the very first half when Lewis had 26 points already and the entire DePue team had barely cracked 20 as a team.

Here's the comment the kid makes about trying to break his brother's scoring record....

"Yeah, its great to be up there with him. I would have liked
to be a little bit closer so I could brag on him. But, we’ve
got two or three games left. Maybe I can break it."

By the way...I said Williamsfield is good, but not that good....they got whalloped by 23 points against Delavan.

Patrick Lewis's brother is Travis Lewis. He graduated from Williamsfield in 1997 and played college ball at louisiana tech. The kid was an absolute animal. He is one of the best highschool players that I have ever seen or played against, hands down.

I graduated from DePue, and their athletic programs have been hurting in a bad way since about 2002 when we had a 19-7 team that choaked in the first round of regionals. I wasn't at this game and I don't know many of the players anymore. But, I do know the coaches and many of the board members. I agree, this sounds like a classless act.

My bad, I didn't read the whole story and missed the selfishness part. That is rather selfish but would still love a shooter like that at Bradley.

Jason....in the interview with the kid, here is what he says after his previous game in which he got 46 points....

Lewis: “I only had like two or three 3-pointers. The rest of it was just getting offensive boards and mostly layups off the break.”

So....this is a kid who can get 40-50 points against pretty hapless, tiny school opponents, and the majority of his points come close to the basket, since he's still plenty bigger than the little guys on West Prairie and DePue!

I'd have to say this kid won't get any D-I, D-II, or even D-III offers, since who at the college level wants a kid who scores mostly on wide open layups they get because they're full-court pressing a team that they are 30-50 points ahead of??
