  • Post game Thread (Women) - Bradley 62, Indiana State 50

So, the Bradley women won yet again at home! It was very close for most of the game, though Bradley managed to get ahead near the end of the first half. Indiana State kept it close during the first part of the second half, but never lead by more than 3 points (or maybe two). In the second part of the second half, Bradley eventually put it away for good.

There was also a rather large (and loud) contingent of Indiana State fans there.

P.S. MacabreMob - Devyn Flanagan scored 5 points and got 4 fouls.

First game I've managed to catch this season. The InSU crowd was about as good as ours. The women were wearing pink for breast cancer. Actually the first women's victory I've ever seen (I think they were 0-6 when I've been there previously).

There was more blue than red in the Fieldhouse.

Indiana State took the early lead, but the game was close most of the way. The Sycs took their last lead at 44 - 43. The Braves then went on a 7 point run and were never headed after that.

Defense is what really won it for us. We completely shut down Phillips their point guard. She averages 12.5 per game and her lone points were a late duece. Also late in the game with Indiana State in desperation mode they couldn't get off an early shot. It was as if they were running clock.

Kelly Krumwiede and Raisa Taylor led BU in scoring with 13 each. Jenny Van Kirk was also in double figures with 10. Krumwide also had 10 boards. Sonya Harris was next with 7 boards to go with her 9 points.

A good win for the ladies as we usually come up short against the Trees.

I have been very open about how much I like Devin. She's my #1. Then there is Monica - hope she recovers and has a nice final year. Yea, Skye ranks right in there - she's lightning fast. But then comes Raisa - I dig her game.

            Thanks for your recap.

Sonya Harris surprised me the most as she hasn't played that much. She was a beast under the boards even tipping one to herself ala Dennis Rodman. She got her 7 boards and 9 points in just 20 minutes.

I really want to congratulate the ladies for their defensive effort in the second half. Indiana State likes to run two plays over and over for which we adjusted and contained. They pass back and forth around the perimeter until one of their bigs pops out to the free throw line to set a screen. The other down low players move out to the wing to make space. Then the screener rolls right down the lane and the ball handler lobs over the defender for an easy hoop. The other play the ball handler drives the right side of the lane. If she starts to beat her defender and weak side help rotates over she bounce passes between the defenders to a player in the vacated space for an easy bunny.

Speaking of bunnies, we missed a couple of those on drives. Far too often we do this and we do not have the same body control as men. We end up a little out of control and invariably the ball comes off the glass too hard. A simple remedy for this is to end the drive with a jump stop. IMHO we would finish a much higher percentage and draw more fouls.

I still think this is the coach's final year...

Just doesn't seem like much has happened to turn around the program since she got here

I really don't think so. I know KK goes to almost every girl's home games. He sits front row under the basket. I think he sees the development and what is on the horizon. Throw in a new arena and facilities... PB's got more time after this season.

                          Just my opinion.

By the way, the Women's MVC Conference RPI is highest this year in the past 9 years (and that is all the further Jerry Palm's data goes back for Conference RPI Rank for women). So the league as a whole is at it's best in the past 9 years.

I think PB is in real hot water actually... who can say though, who isn't closer to things.

As for what's on the floor, my own opinion is that our teams generally play good defense, but have poor offensive schemes and generally seem to be in poorer shape from a conditioning standpoint when compared to the other team. I've only seen six or seven games though, so I might have a real small/poor sample.

Also, from a game management standpoint, she'll sit a starter down for some rest and it's like she'll forget that player is on the bench for several minutes... Anyway, just my two cents. I hope that the women's team can improve with our without PB.
