  • BU vs ISU Pickem?

How about guessing # of Technicals.

    I'd guess 3.

ISU will get 1 for showboating. JL will get one for complaining to the Refs. RA will get one for stepping inbetween MS and AS and shoving AS.

With our luck it will be Beetlejuice, Pretty Boy, or White Hair.

You can guess which officials have garnered these nick names.

P.S. I think "White Hair" may have been officially banished from Valley games after many years of inept officiating. In that case we will get one of our other favorite "over officious jerks" (Please credit Hank Stram for this insult) Gerry Pollard.

By "pretty boy" do you mean Baywatch. Its funny...I originated that name years ago at the tourney in St Louis back in the day when you could get a cheap ticket then "upgrade' to the lower bowl with virtually no problem. Anyway, its a name that I hear him called by other fanbases.....he does some high profile games.

Don't know if he's THAT bad a ref or if its just that we dislike refs in general when we lose (as fans). He DOES seem to like to be the show though.

A few years back when the teams were warming up at halftime I walked by him while returning to my seat and said something clean but unflattering about his questionable first half calls.....he said...."have another beer"...I told him "I never used to drink but took it up the year you started reffing Valley games'...ZIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING.

His original nickname as given by my sister in law was "pleated pants." As he was one of the first officials to feel the need to make this fashion statement.

As it related to his officiating. I don't feel like the one's who do high profile games tend to be better. On the contrary they allow for a much more physical game (esp around the basket).

When you hear the battle cry from sec. 10 "PROTECT THE SHOOTER!!!" You'll know that either Pleated Pants, Mike Sanzere or Tim Higgins is in the house.

Baywatch (Pretty Boy (Pleated Pants)) is Tim Higgins.

I think there'll be two techs handed out, one to Matt Salley and one to Osiris.

I believe Pleated Pants is "John Higgins." Tim Higgins is the older ref who they hire in for the MVC tourney.

Tim is a long time Big 10 ref. I saw a "Big 10 Classic" the other night, U of I v. Indiana in the late 1980's. Tim Higgins was one of the officials.

BBall State has an interesting section on officials.

If Pretty Boy is aka John Higgins, then here are his stats on blowing the whistle:
In Division I Games Called By This Official:
Avg. Fouls: 36.56 Rank: 532 of 837 Avg. Home Foul Margin: -2.09 Rank: 537 of 904

John Higgins worked the ISU / BU game:

                      From the Pantagraph:

ISU coach Tim Jankovich got his first technical of the season for "waving his hand" at official John Higgins. Jankovich was right in front of me and didn't say a word. But he wasn't alone. There were five technicals, all in the second half, with Higgins calling three of them. Higgins is a very good official, but he was a little too over the top Wednesday. Dinma Odiakosa deserved a technical for hanging on the room and Bradley's Matt Salley was rightly whistled for taunting Richardson after knocking him to the ground, but the other technicals to Bradley coach Jim Les and Richardson were really questionable. The officials were trying to take control of a heated game with a hostile crowd, but they need to remember everyone came to watch the players. The technicals ruined what was otherwise a memorable game.

At least you didn't say it was the Higgins who butlers for Magnum, P.I.

Neither Les nor Jank has a history of T??™s and neither should have been called. Jim??™s offense was yelling across the floor. I don??™t care if he had been warned, if he isn??™t cursing and it isn??™t prolonged, you let it go. According to the Journal Star all Yank did was wave his arm. Big deal! Let it go. Salley??™s T was warranted as was the one for hanging on the rim and doing chin ups with no player underneath. The fifth T, I don??™t even know what happened. He certainly didn??™t show up anyone and unless he muttered the magic word, nothing should have been called.
