  • Adam Emmenecker is POY so far in MVC according to writers in Bloomington and Omaha

Articles in the Bloomington Pantagraph and the Omaha World Herald today both promote Adam Emmenecker of Drake as the MVC Player of the Year at the halfway point. This is not the opinion of the writers, but the MVC coaches as well. Jim Les is mentioned as one of the coaches who sounds like his vote would go to Emmenecker.

This is a great story. Emmenecker averaged only 4.7 ppg as a senior at Saginaw Arthur Hill High School in Michigan and didn't get much Division I interest. He came to Drake as a walkon. This season he averages just 6.3 points per game for Drake (18-1 and ranked #16). He also averages 5.7 assists per game, and 4.6 rebounds per game.

    Hmm...thats interesting...

My choice right now would be Osiris Eldridge....(and yes, I know thats not a good choice coming from a BU fan)

Lamberth and Coleman would also be good choices, if their teams were winning...

Unfortunately, if it has to come from the top, I would choose Cox over Emmenecker....just my opinion though...

OK, I admit I've never seen this kid play, but looking at those numbers, he must have some pretty darn big "intangibles" that aren't showing up in the box score if he's gonna be the POY.
A real fan celebrates the successes, but also acknowledges the failures of his team.

I don't know if POY is synonymous with MVP, but if it is then the vote goes to Emmenecker for sure. I love OE and he is a great player, but Emmenecker has been more consistent and his team is dominating right now.

Still a lot of ball to be played, but at the midway point AE gets my vote for Valley POY.
Dinma Odiakosa 6'8 255......The Nigerian Nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 37 points and 27 boards in 2 wins over Bradley. "Will Egolf is 6'9 and he had 4 rebounds. That's not good enough and he's not good enough"....Dick Versace 2/9/10

Always glad to hear the opinion DC!

I will give Adam some credit....besides being mispronounced as "Evan" Emmenecker 3 times during pregame on two separate occasions by Dan DiOrio, he did in fact have the deciding basket in the BU game, and the deciding layup and free throws in the Drake/UNI game just after that...

Well... I won't argue with those who want to give it to Emmenecker, but
I would argue that Drake would have probably won all the games they've won except one even without him.
Not because he isn't good...but because Drake uses a system of interchangable parts, and they have a lot of them.
Drake is playing extremely well with a team-style that utilizes many players, and guys like Korver, Cox, Houston, and Young have all played important roles, and possibly even more important than Emmenecker.

Emmenecker is averaging 6 ppg, is not a 3-pt threat (he's 0-0), and 5.4 assists per game. Good numbers, but unless Drake wins it all, someone else's name will emerge.
