    Dave Reynolds article--
    Roundhouse regrouping

Anyone got an idea what the title means?

Here is a thoughtful responses to Kirk Wessler's column that reflects wht I and other posters here have said--

It probably deals with the fact that Koch has been a house of horrors for us in recent years, possibly coupled with how the team performed in a game with two players suspended. That's my take...

I'd say you're right on Scouter. Plus, often it is not even the writer who comes up with the title. Therefore, there are times the title makes little sense or is hokey.

The old arena where the Shockers used to play was Henry Leavitt Arena, commonly called the Roundhouse, although that name was never actually dedicated as the official name of the arena.

However, the Shockers completely rebuilt the arena with the help of a HUGE donation from Koch Industries, and now call it the new Charles Koch Arena.
And although some old faithful from Wichita still call it the Roundhouse, that's is not what the builders nor the funders of the new arena want.
They specifically wanted their name (Koch Arena) to be the name by which it is known.
When Koch Arena was built they wanted it known that the OLD NAME Roundhouse was history and the new Koch Arena was being built on its ashes.

But I guess enough people still know the name "Roundhouse", and Dave Reynolds has probably always called it that.....so I understand.

And nice, nice response by Rick LeHew.

I know that this is true and I get a bit of a laugh with those titles sometime, but I wasn't sure what "regrouping" in the title meant. It seemed it would fit more if Bradley was coming off a losing streak, but BU had won 2 in a row and has looked strong, especially with DR's return.

I would have guessed something like "BU continues strong play" would have been a more accurate title. Or I might have expected the usual pun we get using the Shocker nickname.

One of the weirdest titles to a Bradley game article occurred in 1999 after a BU-Wichita game at Wichita.
Wichita State, lead by sophomore Maurice Evans' 21 points, beat the Braves 79-65 (I had to look that up, I actually didn't remember the score). Dave Reynolds' article the next morning was titled--
"Some people call me Maurice, some people call me the gangster of hoop"

I am sure Dave remembers that one. I emailed him about it, and I recall him saying he didn't have anything to do with it and would have probably chosen a different title if it was up to him.

For those who don't know, that title is derived from some strange lyrics of a song, "The Joker" by The Steve Miller Band.
Here are the actual lyrics, does anyone remember this?--
          The Joker-
Some people call me the space cowboy, yeah
Some call me the gangster of love
          Some people call me Maurice
Cause I speak of the pompitous of love.
