  • My 2 cents on the crowd...

Just to change some of the subjects...

Hey..wasn't the home crowd really, really great last Wednesday??

I think they helped the home team get the win.
I know at one point I hollered at one of the ISU kids by name and he looked right at me........
the very next play he put a little "mustard" on a simple play and obviously seemed to relish (I couldn't resist) rubbing it in right in front of the hostile BU crowd.
That action led to a technical and the one point we got from that act, was just enough to win the game.
So I went home with a little pride that "we" (the crowd) did our part!

(now before you ISU fans question what I said...it was nothing I got a technical for, and was way, way benign compared to what I have heard the ISU fans holler at the Braves' players in RA!! But it was clearly just enough that the player thought it necessary to put a little extra emphasis on his actions in the very next play, and his attempt to get vengeance on the crowd cost him)

    The Crowd.......11,421 on Wednesday........
brings the average for 2007-2008 to 10,030!!!

is closing in on Valley 2nd place (in home attendance) Wichita's 10,478!!

The Bradley crowds are usually great and very vocal; the only thing I would like to see is for the students to come out ( when they are here ) to all the games as their support makes a huge difference to the team and how well they play and to some of the other fans that only seem to show up when we play a big name opponent; I know Evansville was a sat. night game but how come we did not have a larger crowd for the Drake game as they were and are still in first place?

The game was like games of old...the rivalry is great and has been missing something the last several games...maybe it was just level of play...but with 5 T's..I'm sure it will be wild one down their in a few weeks....to me this was even better than the MSU game

Both the Evansville and Drake games were played during J-term, when many students simply were not in the area

It also had to do with the fact everyone was so glad to be back and cheering for the team.

it's been such a long break (both in reality and for the basketball team) that I think everyone was ready to come back and kick some redbird butt

          great job everyone
          see you on the 30th

First off, I think over the last year and a half, the students have been great. More and more students are starting to come to the games on a regular basis and they make a HUGE difference in the overall atmosephere of Carver Arena and they do give the team an extra boost. Kudos to you guys (and gals) and keep up the good work.

During the break I thought our crowds were so-so. I think our fans (including myself) were very reactive instead of proactive. I've heard people say that the team needs to play well for the crowd to get involved. I agree with this to some extent but I think their are times when the team needs a boost and needs the crowd to create some energy in the building. I can remember many games at the Fieldhouse where BU would get down 10 points or so and the crowd would stand and get loud and almost "will" the Braves to play better and get back in the game. (and it usually worked!!) Never underestimate the home court advantage... If the BU crowd could somehow manage to come to every game with the same intensity as the ISU game, Carver Arena would be an even harder place for visiting teams to win.

That being said, Wed. crowd was great and I hope that the team gives us all even more good reasons to cheer them on.

            Go Braves!

One more note.....my apologies to Mike Radigan for taking his title and working it to use in a couple other threads....but I thought it was a nice way to start the discussion but yet clearly state that I am not being dogmatic about my viewpoint.

It would also help if they had a student section during J-Term. I was at the top of what is normally the student section for the Witchita St. game and felt bad anytime I wanted to stand and cheer like I am used to doing during a game because there were people behind me who were sitting. Then during the Drake game, I bought my tickets at the Fieldhouse and they put us behind the opposite basket so we were close to the Braves bench, and then during the Evansville game, we got put in the Upper Bowl about halfway up. If we actually had a student section during the winter break games and we got tickets for those when we buy the student season tickets, I think more students would come back here for the game. When we are all in one section, we are a lot louder than when we are scattered around the stadium.

I thought so too, but one of the mods must have deleted one of the 2 cent threads??

well, one mod holds the heaviest hammer, and it is NOT me.

                            anyway...somewhat on this topic....

Here we find ourselves at 10AM on a SUNDAY MORNING!!
This is notoriously a very slow time on every message board in America!!

BUT.....I look at the precise board stats right now (a little after 10AM) and there are 83 people viewing, about half are registered and half are just viewing.
But I (as a moderator) can see their IP addresses, and several are from the Wichita area, and a few more from places like St. Louis and southern part of Illinois!!

Not one other Valley board, nor Valleytalk, nor even the "other board" here in Central IL have more than 20-30, most have 10-12 online.
Simply MORE evidence that Bradley basketball, just like our HOME CROWD is really HOT!!
I am continually amazed at the activity as well as the PM's we get supporting the fact that Bradley basketball is drawing more and more fans and this web site may be helping BU's fan base grow!
(in fact, one measure, the "new post count" has just had the highest 2-day/48 hour stretch we have ever had on BradleyFans.)

I agree with everything you said, and unfortunately what it comes down to is that the students get screwed over break.
