  • ESPN Game Day - This Weekend?

Is it this Saturday that ESPN will host game day at SIU as part of the SIU / Creighton tilt?

If so, what does gameday entail? I'm more familiar with waht ESPN does for football gamedays than what it does for basketball.

That's correct. Saw the commercial this morning....gameday at the dawg pound!

GameDay on the air now from the SIU Arena. My jealously right now is at an all-time high.

Kudos to SIU, they look like they have the arena bouncing. That's a great atmosphere. Just makes my SIU hatred/envy a lot higher.

How low has digger fallen to let himself be seen on ESPN in an arena from the MVC? How does he keep his job?

Bilas: "I think Illinois State may be the best team in this league".

One of the other guys is not impressed with Drake AT ALL and says the Valley is a one-bid league.
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

Is this the bizarro world? Drake is in 1st place, Hubert Davis rips the MVC, and Digger Phelps and Jay Bilas defend it! What is going on?!?

I thought ESPN did a good job at SIU today, and I thought the SIU fans represented well. It's too bad we (as a league) couldn't have garnered some more noteworthy wins in the non-con and been more of a factor when it comes to March Madness. I think we're getting 2 teams in still, but if Drake would happen to tank in the last month, we might be in trouble.

If Drake runs through the Valley slate at 14-4 or so and someone other than Drake wins the tourney, the Valley would get two in. Otherwise, we're likely a 1-bid league. ISU and Creighton do not have at-large resumes at the moment...and they each only have 1 shot left in the regular season against Drake to actually get a win over a top 40 team on their resumes.

If BU stays out of the play-in round, I think they're playing on Sunday and making someone sweat.

Well first, I don't think Phelps and Bilas are expecting more than two teams to make the tournament. I think the problems start when the Valley has a year like two years ago when several teams make the tourament and therefore take up "valuable" spots from BCS teams. That's when Digger and his cronies will start to complain again!

Also, Davis has been against the Valley this year from the get go. How does he not realize that we are a top 8 conference, and have three NCAA worthy teams at the top? There's a long way to go, and things can change, but right at this moment the Valley deserves at least two bids. Davis should know better than that!

How do you come to that conclusion? You don't think Illinois St and Creighton are at-large worthy?

We are the 8th ranked conference in the nation. I don't believe the number 8 conference has ever had less than two teams in the tournament. There are quality wins to be had within the conference despite the lack of good OOC wins. This system works for the BCS conferences, why not ours?

Yes, a Creighton loss tonight might temporarily take them out of the equation, but there is still a long way to go. But as of right now, three teams have good cases for making the tournament.
