This time for accepting free NBA tickets from "his friends" in the NBA....so he and his "girlfriend" could sit at courtside at a Lakers game.
What I find really, really flagrantly silly is the suggestion that mid-court, courtside tickets at a Lakers home game are worth "$230 each".
That's absolutely insane, as those seats, had he made even the most meager attempt to sell them anywhere (ebay, newspaper ad, outside the arena, etc..)
would have easily brought 3-5 times that much, maybe even up to $2000 each! (he got two tickets)
Mayo admits this is NOT the first time he's gotten to go to NBA games for free, just because he knew someone....
Then the USC coach, Tim Floyd claims Mayo should not be punished since it is his fault (Floyd's)!@!! Now excuuuuuse me...since when does a coach have the ability to absolve the student athlete when he commits a violation???
Here's my take....this kid got an extra benefit of well over a couple thousand dollars in value.
This is way more value than Patrick O'Bryant received inadvertently, but Mayo's violation was fully intention and knowing.
Is there anyone that thinks the NCAA will see this as anything but a little, minor accidental issue? Had Patrick O'Bryant taken $2000 in freebies....recall the NCAA swooped down to suspend him for 8 games!!!!!!!
Can there be any doubt there IS a double standard.
The NCAA STILL has not commented on the $200,000 of extra benefits and freebies Reggie Bush got while in college at USC!!
That's been three years and running!
