Here is a clip of what Daniel West said--
Daniel West, a 6-foot-2 combo guard, committed to Bradley in Oct. 2006. The Saginaw (Mich.) High standout is no longer committed to the Braves but remains interested in Jim Les’ program.

West is averaging 15 points a contest as a senior. A number of programs are chasing him. “He’s got a few schools really after him and others are interested and calling,” coach Lou Dawkins told Scout.com. “He’s having an outstanding season.”
“St. John’s really, really wants him.”
Cleveland State, SMU, IPFW and Fairfield would like to sign him this spring. West is qualified and has everything in order academically.

With the commitment of EM, is there even a slot available to consider DW?

BU does have scholarships available for 2008, as you can see from the scholarship grid.
I think BU is not strong after West, from what it appears.

Why wouldn"t we still want him since he has qualified ; we need to get at least 1 more freshman recruit.

We already have a point guard recruit who seems to be on par with West. We need a capable big and a shooter, preferably both of the 4 year variety. Who knows if there will be more departures, there could be another scholarship or two available.

I like what I've read about McCain, but on par with West? He's the point guard on one of the best teams in Michigan, who plays on the highest level (A in Michigan). McCain's school is in the smallest grouping of schools in Louisiana. I will note though, that McCain's school has played and beat some of the bigger Louisiana schools. But to say that the two are on par, at least at this point would be kind of unfair to West. I'm very happy with McCain and he may become a fabulous Brave, but I just don't think he has the pedigree that West does right now.
            Go Braves!

Unless we've actually seen these recruits play, I think it's silly for us to decide or speculate who's "on par" with whom. JMO

If DW really has his grades in order I would still like him to be a Brave........but I'm on the outside looking in and really do not have enough facts on why he had his ride taken back.....but on a basketball note.....yesw he would be a great asset on the court!

Heck..I'd still like to see Buycks end up being a Brave.....I thought he'd be a starter on this years sqaud!

When is the Spring Signing Period?

It seems everyone really liked what they saw of Daniel West when he was planning on coming to BU. He seems like a solid player, and I would definitely be interested in him. But I have no idea on the inner workings.

He would make the 3rd freshman in the class of 2009 ; we are only losing 1 big and 2 guards so one more guard would be good and we could use the last scholarship on a big.

I thought Daniel was more of an off guard or combo guard, so the presence of a point guard doesn't seem like a problem. If I recall correctly he's pretty tall and has good skills all around. If his problem was only his grades, and he worked to fix those and can qualify at Bradley, and is still interested in Bradley... I'd certainly welcome him here. If it was something disciplinary or something like that, then we made the right choice.

Here's a couple stories on Daniel West's Saginaw team (19-1) who begin their quest to defend their State Championship.
They are the heavy favorites to repeat in Michigan's largest Class, Class A.

NOTE.....near the end of the 2nd article, it says Daniel West got an offer from Tennessee!
Will he be playing behind Josh Tabb?

Then these are both subscription articles...but I will give you some excerpts..........

Class A Basketball -- 3 of their four experts pick Saginaw to make the final game, then win their 2nd title in a row.

The Michigan High School State basketball playoffs start on Monday. MichiganPreps.com will have exclusive coverage each week leading up to and including the State Finals. We will have news, analysis, predictions, game recaps and of course video for Class A, B, C and D. There are some incredible match ups this week in the Districts and our Round Table will start breaking down the games in Class A.

                          Craig Wind's Picks

State Championship ??“ Saginaw Arthur Hill vs. Detroit Henry Ford
Hill is on a mission and they have the missing piece to the puzzle now to knock out the defending champs. Head coach Ken Flowers has been there and done that with Redford. Ford has inside strength and great perimeter play. Their talent is fantastic!

Player to Watch - John Edwards, Saginaw Arthur Hill
Here is the key to the Lumberjack run in 2008. Edwards transferred in from Saginaw High and sat until first semester ended. He's 5-8 and dynamite in the open floor, clearly the most explosive open floor player for the Hill now and the key to breaking the vaunted Saginaw Trojan press.

Best District Doubleheader ??“ District 15 at Wayne Memorial
It looks like Romulus against Belleville though don't count out Ypsilanti on Monday night against Belleville and then a Mega championship rematch with Westland John Glenn against Wayne Memorial. A grand total of 12 losses amongst four teams, great balance and lots of skilled players.

Biggest District Upset ??“ You stole my pick here Falletti! Good job with Southeastern knocking off Northwestern and let's go with one more big one and take Lake Orion to knock off Clarkston. Their best players are underclassmen and the OAA is weak. Otherwise, I love Dan Fife and his Wolves. I just think they lived a charmed life in 2007-2008.

                          Mike Faletti's Picks

State Championship- Saginaw High vs. Romulus
Both teams have the superstars to take them to the state championship game. Saginaw High has Draymond Green and Daniel West while Romulus features Dominique Buckley. Senior Will Clyburn will be one to watch for Romulus as well.

Player to Watch- Eric Marshall, Detroit Cody, Senior
He doesn't get the publicity junior Demetrius Ford does, but Marshall has been Cody's best all-around player. He is a very aggressive player who has posted a few triple-doubles this season.

Best District Doubleheader- District 19, Southfield High
Assuming Southfield High gets by Detroit Western on Monday, there would be a Wednesday doubleheader of Detroit Cody-Detroit Central and Detroit Henry Ford-Southfield High. All four teams have at least one Division 1 player on their rosters.

                          Biggest District Upset- Detroit Southeastern
The Jungaleers are 8-0 since junior Kimanni Boynton became eligible on January 19. With Boynton, Brandan Kearney, Fred Smith, and Kyle Bryant they have the talent to upset Detroit Northwestern or King in Districts.

                          George Yarberry's Picks

                          State Championship
The Class A Final 4 will be Ann Arbor Pioneer vs Saginaw and Detroit Henry Ford vs Orchard Lake St Mary. Saginaw will use their full court press to advance and Henry Ford will out muscle OLSM. Draymon Green will show why he should be Mr Basketball and help Saginaw to repeat as Class A State Champions.

                          Best Player To Watch
Lawrence Bridges from Detroit Henry Ford. Bridges is the spark plug that can rebound, play defense and provide the toughness you need in the middle to win in the post-season. Look for Bridges to lead his team all the way to the Breslin Center.

                          Best District Doubleheader
A tie between District No.15 and District No.23. The winner of the District Finals (No.23) match up between West Bloomfield and Orchard Lake St Mary will advance all the way to the Quarterfinals. The same is true in District No.15 with Romulus and Westland John Glenn winner.

                          Biggest District Upset
Detroit ML King over Detroit Northwestern. Northwestern is the favorite after winning the PSL Championship but fell apart in Operation Friendship on Saturday afternoon against Orchard Lake St Mary losing by 15. Can they regroup in two days?

                          John Keene's Picks

                          Class A State Championship Prediction

                          Saginaw v. Detroit Pershing
Look for Saginaw to make another trip to the Breslin Center and win their second state title in as many years. Seniors Draymond Green and Daniel West will carry the Trojans to the championship.

Best Class A Player to Watch
                          Draymond Green
The 6-foot-7 Saginaw powerhouse is looking to have his way in the districts and what better way to do so then against arch-rival Saginaw Arthur Hill.

                          Best Class A Doubleheader
District No. 10 @ Saginaw Arthur Hill
The night starts out with the game of the districts in any class, Saginaw versus Saginaw Arthur Hill. This game alone is enough reason to be there in person. The second half offers Owosso versus Saginaw Heritage, which won't be a bad game, but it's like putting the undercard after the main event.

                          and this one on Saginaw...

                          Trojans March On

Are the votes in? Did Saginaw senior forward Draymond Green secure his spot in history on Monday night with a 29 point ??“ 14 rebound performance in a 81-66 win over Saginaw Arthur Hill?

The Lumberjacks won game one, and now the Saginaw Trojans came back to win both games two AND three with #3 being the most important. Saginaw rolls forward towards their repeat quest on Wednesday night as they play Flushing at 5:30 pm at Arthur Hill High School.

Senior guard Daniel West scored one point and got offered by Tennessee after the game. St Johns was in attendance in a game flooded with coaches, scouts, and internet gurus from around the state and the country. Junior guard Mike Green always seems to get hot from downtown around this time of the season. He hit four treys on his way to 19 points.

Arthur Hill's senior stars Latreze Mushatt and Tyree Wooten scored 19 and 15 points respectively, but the Trojan pressure full court zone defense wore out the Lumberjacks. Hill had 27 turnovers against the pressure as clearly they were no match for the defending 2007 Class A state champions.

Will Draymond Green pull down the hardware for Mr. Basketball? When you win those kinds of games under the limelight, you clearly enhance the possibilities.

Will Saginaw win Class A state titles back-to-back in 2007 and 2008? Perhaps their biggest obstacle for the next two weeks is behind them now.

Let's see if Tennessee has any problems getting him eligible if he decides to go there. My bet would be they don't.

I say: "forget anymore guards"! We need BIGS who can PLAY! That's how we got to the Sweet 16. We had a couple BIGS who could play. Compare Summerville and POB to what we have now at those two spots. WOW!!! Polar opposites. We need good BIGS (6'7" and taller) to win, period.
