Bradley is just 2 games out of a tie for 4th with 9 games to go!

Here is the box score from the MSU-UNI game--
Why couldn't Missouri State have shot this poorly against BU? 31% for the game!

I believe you meant 11 games to go. Lotta time left.

I'd say teams shoot a high percentage against us because our team defense is terrible.

        Bingo...
Without Ruffin, this year's BU team is one of the worst defensive teams I have seen in a long, long time. It seems like every single game the opposition sets some kind of season high with their FG% against us...
We've gotta make huge strides defensively if we want to stay out of Thursday...

Even with Ruffin teams were shooting a high percentage.

          UIC - 54%
          Iowa St - 47%
          Iowa - 45%
          Vanderbilt - 52% (including 60% in the 2nd half)
          SEMO - 46%
          Butler - 46% (including 57% in the 2nd half)

Since Ruffin's departure the quality of opponents has gone down, yet the shooting percentages have gone up. It's a team-wide problem that would be happening with or without Ruffin. Perhaps he would have made a difference against VCU, DU, and UE, but he wouldn't have had the profound effect on our pathetic rebounding, which led to a large number of high-percentage layups.

Agreed...I didn't mean to imply that we were a good defensive team when Ruff was playing...Just that we went from a bad defensive team to an epically bad defensive team when he went down with injury.

Maybe not relevant... but wondering how SIU gets away with hand-checking but Bradley doesn't (nor anybody else for that matter)?

UNI winning isnt the greatest thing to happen, but staying out of Thursday I think means IndyState coming back and that should happen with the schedule they have the next really month. They play between now and Feb 16 at ISU, Bradley, SIU and WSU and home to Eville, Drake Bradley and ISU.

But beyond that, we have to take care of our own business, meaning we must win at WSU, sweep Indy State and go to Evansville and win. We also must defend our home court but we still have CU, MSU ISU and SIU to come in.

But it begins on Wednesday, defend the home court and take out, what I am guessing will be a very upset Redbird squad.

No question we have some serious defensive deficiencys and have had all year. I was shocked by how teams scored on us, even during the exhibition season. We got spoiled during last season.
But, one huge difference since Ruff's injury, is the way opponents are able to run their offense against us. In other words, they can dictate terms. Sam M is doing his very best, and I don't want this to be taken in any way as a negative re his play. But, DR is a very special defensive player. He can disrupt the opponents offense like not very many players in our league can. I gurantee that the Drake point guard does not get into the lane with 10 seconds left, if Danny is guarding him.
There are two other factors with which we must deal without DR. With Danny and Sam everyone else moves one player down on the opponents skill level. In other words, JC and AW are potentially given easier defensive assignments.
The other factor, which I think contributes largely to the shooting percentages vs us, is minutes played. Our perimeter players are logging huge minutes since Danny went down. Looking at the glass as half full, hopefully DR's return with fresh legs, can invigorate the rest of the team. I know it will take some time for him to get back in the groove.

Yes, but unfortunately we still have five games against the top three, and seven or eight games against the top half of the league. BUT, who knows what will happen. That's why they play the games!

I would say that is a fortunate thing as we can only help ourselves in those games and don't have to win AND hope the teams ahead of us lose. Ruffin should (hopefully) be back for Illinois State, Drake, SIU, and both Creighton games. Let's go out and get both those birds with one stone!
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12
