Pepperdine coach abruptly resigns

Pepperdine coach Vance Walberg suddenly announced his resignation after just 1 1/2 seasons citing personal and family reasons for his decision. Assistant Eric Bridgeland takes over as interim coach.

Wahlberg had tremendous success at the junior college level in California (133-11 in the 4 seasons before coming to Pepperdine), but his record at Pepperdine was only 14-35.

Rumor has it that he was very degrading and borderline abusive to his players. One reported incident is that he made a player suck his thumb for an entire practice because in their previous game, he played like a 'big baby'. Very strange.
