  • What Happened to WINNING with two bigs on the floor??

    Drake had:
    30 pts in the paint

    12 offensive rebounds

Everyone knew that there were only two people that could possibly get the last shot. We really just needed two guards in at the end to defend Emmenecker and Houston. I'm not suggesting we should have had 3 bigs in, but there's no way you can let them have 3 shots.

Salley came really close to playing ~25 minutes and scoring 2 pts.

We should have picked up Emmenecker before he was 10 feet from the basket.

    Drake is not that good.

Salley had 3 rebounds in 24 minutes. It's almost funny.

Definition of insanity - doing something the same over and over again, and expecting different results.

Our rebounding sucks big time, and will continue to suck the rest of the year if things don't get changed up. And don't give me any BS that DC or RA can't do better. We will never know if they don't get more than 1 minute a game.

Oh, and I don't care what happens in practice, either!!! We need help down low!!!

I said that coming home that if you continue to play the same players you will get the same results; when is Les going to realize that we need an inside game to go with our outside game ; I would have gone to a zone on their last possession as the last 10 min. all they did was drive to the basket and we couldn"t stop them; the best team did not win tonight but the best coached team did; Austin should have gotten more min. in the 2nd half and I guarantee that he gets more rebounds and points then Salley for the same amount of minutes; 3 shots at the end of the game is inexcusable as we knew they were going to drive to the basket so why were we not ready to rebound.

What Happened to WINNING with two bigs on the floor??

It worked against UNI. The game plan for DU was to not try it.

Guard the guys bringing up the ball in the last 10 flipping seconds so they at least only get one shot. We let them bring the ball up uncontested and then let them get 2 rebounds...arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Put the 7 footer in and let him at least try to disrupt the easy point blank shots or grab a board.

Dallas, we can debate who should be in the rotation for our bigs, but there is no way that we should not have two bigs on the floor at the same time.

I said this about the four guard offense on this board a few weeks ago.

                Who?

Time to call the dogs off of Salley. Who determines how many minutes he plays? Who recruited the "BIGS" to give us a stronger inside presence? Who is responsible for developing them? Who makes the decision NOT to play them? The season is lost. If and when Ruffin returns won't make much of a difference. Maybe a play-in game win, but that's about it. The Conference is passing us by. EVERYONE has a stronger inside game than us. It's time to start looking toward next year and begin playing those recruits we're going to desparately need ... before they totally lose confidence and maybe even decide they have no future at BU.

Allow me to refer to my post from this thread:

I had a feeling that the "big" lineup might not last.....

I may get a little slack for this but JL did have a decent game plan for most of the game. Drake played a zone so the best way to defeat one is hitting the outside shot. Where I think he messed up was playing MS way to much, not getting the ball into SM's hands (to many rushed TOs by guys who should not be dribbling that far from the basket) and not going into a zone the last few minutes of the game when we had the lead. Man 2 Man is great if you are trying for an uptempo game but we needed to stop their penetration and take time off the clock. JL needs some input from his staff during certain situations that he is either ignoring or not getting. The last shot is just one area of the game where he failed. Tell me why SS and RA were not in there for that last shot. We also got killed when they inbounded the past on their sideof the court, not just once but countless times. That my friends is what they call a terrible bench coaching. Some are great game planners and practice coaches others excel in making game changing adjustments during the game. 2 bigs the whole game NO but playing small the whole game hell NO!

It was talked about in another thread...but playing two bigs against Drake would have been a terrible idea. Drake's bigs are all perimeter players, so playing a second big would have resulted in Singh, Salley, or Austin trying to chase Korver around the perimeter...and that would have been disastrous.
Playing TW at the 4 was the right lineup for this game...Drake would have had their way with us on the offensive end if we had two bigs in together for a majority of the game...They might have hit 20 threes, and our bigs are not anywhere near good enough to create mismatches on the offensive end. So it would have been a lose-lose scenario. We were already bigger than Drake with our 'small' lineup in there...

I do not care if Jim wants to call TW a forward and play him at the 4
The disaster was the first substitution of the game. TCS for TW.
I am not at all trying to rip TCS, as we need his minutes. minutes to rest our 123 guys, not our 4.

Until Ruff gets back, we will loose every game that stupid substitution is made.

                        Book it!

(Yes, I realize TCS is not playing the 4, but he is not great at the 1 or 2 right now, and so we wind up with 2 weak players on the floor TCS at 2 and JC or AW at the 4)
The biggest problem with the TCS substitution is not even the weaker lineup of SM, JC, AW, TCS and SS. It is the OBVIOUS FACT that our starting 123's then have to play too many minutes.
We did not use TCS's minutes to rest our 123's physically and keep them out of possible foul trouble! We lost the game because our tired 123's couldn't handle the pressure in the last 3 minutes (tired?) and JC had to become more passive to keep from fouling out.

Once again. Until Ruff gets back, we will loose every game that stupid substitution is made.

                        Book it!
