  • Ex-BU Recruits

One kid that Jim Les was really close to landing, James Johnson, ended up going to Wake Forest.
Last night (game was on ESPN) Wake nearly upset Maryland (in College Park, MD), but fell short.
James Johnson was the Player of the Game! with 14 pts, 5 rebs, 4 blocks,
and one MONSTER SLAM DUNK that was the #1 Play of the Day later on ESPN.
Man, could we have used him!

One other kid that BU wanted....Yuba's Mareceo Rutledge, is struggling at UNLV.
Last night he had only 4 pts on 1-4, and on the season is averaging only 4 ppg, 2 rpg on 38% shooting, and a really surprisingly low 25% on 3-pointers, which was his bread and butter the last couple seasons at Yuba.
    Did he aim too high?

Shang Ping, another one time BU recruit has fallen off the playing charts at Nebraska.
As backup center, he only got 2 minutes last night, and was scoreless, as the Huskers fell to Colorado, and go 0-2 in the Big 12.
Nebraska's non-conference record was 11-2 and they were pretty hopeful of the Big 12 conference season.
Now, they find themselves 0-2 in the Big 12, one of only two Big 12 teams that start with two losses, and their RPI at 146 is absolutely last in the Big 12, making it hard to imagine they can rebound even at this early point, and likely are out of the running for any NCAA consideration.
Ping will find himself very unhappy with the PT he gets and transfer by the end of the year.

One other kid BU fans will recall, Jarvis Varnado of Mississippi State, also got some notice on the ESPN Plays of the Day.
Varnado got himself a TRIPLE DOUBLE last night in Mississippi State's win over Billy Gillispie's Kentucky Wildcats,
as he nabbed 10 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 blocks!

I believe he's leading the nation in blocked shots.....something like 5.0+ a game.

Yes, 5.5 blocked shots per game, well ahead of everyone else.
