  • New Recruit "High on Bradley"/Waithe Visits Tues.

Here is a name I have not yet seen mentioned, but obviously Jim Les knows about him!!

This is from a brand new article this morning on Rivals, covering the Real Deal AAU tournament in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

"Bryquis Perine (DTA Wisconsin)- A 6-foot-2, 162-pound shooting guard, Perine is a rangy left hander with a good feel for the middle game. He is high on Bradley after recently taking a visit there, and he has offers from Creighton and Wisconsin-Green Bay. Marquette, Iowa State, Georgetown and Florida State are also on his list."

Here are some more links with info on Perine:

    (6th post)

    They also mention Marvell Waithe:
"Marvel Waithe (GC Ballers)- An intriguing 2006 prospect from Canada, Waithe is a long, lean small forward with a nice shooting touch. He moves his feet well defensively and used his length and athleticism to block a couple shots.

According to GC Ballers assistant coach Ro Russell, Waithe is visiting Georgia this weekend, and will possibly visit Bradley and Iowa State also this spring."

Also, another Rivals article talks about the Indiana Elite winning the 16U title, and discusses one of their best players,
    Matt Roth,
"Indiana Elite Claims the 16U Title"...
"Marcus Sturghiss and Matt Roth, a 6-foot-2 shooting guard from Peoria (Ill.) High School were the perimeter punches and buried anything that came their way with an open look."

Here's even more from a couple other sites:

This scout article says Marvell Waithe will be visiting Bradley this Tuesday
"G.C. Ballers wing Marvell Waithe begins his four-school visit trip Sunday night. Waithe heads off to Georgia on Monday and Bradley on Tuesday. He???‚¬?„?s scheduled to visit Iowa the week after and Cincinnati the following week."
Stay up to date with all the Wake Forest Demon Deacons sports news, recruiting, transfers, and more at 247Sports.com

The very next sentence talks about Peoria Richwoods' Justin Dehm:
"Warriors combo guard Justin Dehm is turning into quite the mid-major find. Southern Illinois, Eastern Illinois, Western Illinois, Illinois State, Indiana State, Princeton, Stanford, Marquette and Arizona State are watching him. ???‚¬?¦ "

More on Matt Roth from a free site

Perine just committed to Wisconsin-Green Bay, turning down offers from Bradley, Creighton, Missouri State, and UNI, and he had been getting interest from and had visited Marquette and UW-M.
The UW-Green Bay Phoenix are hailing it as one of their top recruiting coups ever.

For the record, CU did not have an offer out to this kid but was interested. It's funny how these kids interprete the contacts they get from schools.

Bradley needs to get some size with their remaining scholarships. I would doubt that there was still an offer from Bradley after Fears signed on. I could be wrong.

Exactly. IMO the 2 current 2007 scholarships will go to big men.
Bradley's interest in this kid, a 2007 recruit, was a long time ago before the committments by Maniscalco (who is a much better point guard), and DeAaron Williams and Jeremy Fears (both of whom become eligible in 2007). Bradley simply doen't need another combo guard, unless he is a McDonald's AA caliber, which Perine is not. I suspect Bradley pulled back their tentative offer a long time ago, and I suspect UNI, and Creighton did, too, since they have recently gotten guard committments, too. UW-GB probably was the best offer this kid had going.

As a UW-Green Bay alum, I am pleased. They have had good teams in the past (Dick Bennett era) and the school is one of the most picturesque schools in the country. They are building a state of the art athletics facility that should be done soon. If Bradley had this kind of campus to offer along with the obvious Bradley pluses, they would have the best recruiting class in the MVC year after year. I am not trying to be a UW-Green Bay recruiter, but check out this link for a virtual tour of the campus. It is spectacular! For those of you who are ready to kick me off the discussion board, I grew up a Bradley fan back in the Fieldhouse days. I am also a Bradley alum and former Bradley faculty member. It would be interesting to see BU play UW-Green Bay, but they never do.

I would love to see UWGB get tougher and give UW-M a little competition in the Horizon.
The Panthers have had it way too easy for way too long.

                        George,

Don't take this the wrong way but I wouldn't call that campus "spectacular". Sure, it's nice. But so is Bradley in the fall, Wake Forest most anytime, UVA, Creighton, UNC-CH, UNC-W (right near the ocean), and a whole host of others.

I know I would have liked it if BU would have had a golf course on the perimeter of the campus like UW-GB does. Not sure if that does much for recruiting b-ballers though.

I have seen dozens of college campuses, and I believe nearly every one of them was more scenic than Bradley, or larger with more varied features. The state schools, even UW-GB have a great advantage in size and financial support. You won't find many private schools with their own golf courses, but many state schools have them and much more.

I have always wondered how Bradley is able to recruit against most schools with better facilities. I think it's a credit to the recruiting abilities of Versace, Molinari, and Jim Les. Other urban, small, private schools like Evansville, Drake, Butler, etc, haven't had it easy with recruiting top level athletes.

Bradley's campus is a pretty one during the summer. The grounds and housing crews do a great job of making it look as beautiful as possible for potential and incoming students. While it doesn't have the some of the amenities or natural beauty that other campuses have, the campus does have a homey feel to it, which I think appeals to a lot of people. Still, with the awful on-campus facilities we've had for the last 20 years, it really is a tribute to Dick, Jim, and Jim on their ability to sell Bradley University.
                              Onward and Upward!
