  • Recruit signings and walk-ons

It has been so dull the last couple days, I had to put up a title like that just to get people excited.

Ryne Hamblet, one of the talented players at Chipola College in Florida has committed to Bowling Green.

Hamblet was looked at by Bradley, and he plays on Chipola's juco powerhouse with Michael Taylor (just committed to Greg McDermott an Iowa State), Stephon Hannah (still deciding between Fresno State, Houston, Kansas State, Missouri, UTEP, UAB and others), Shawn Taylor (La. Tach), gerrard Jackson (La. Monroe), and several other Div I prospects including former Chicagoans Jamarcus Ellis, and DeAndre Thomas. He was a dunk contests in high school and was one of Chipola's leading scorers. Bowling Green struggled to score this past year, and Hamblet will have an opportunity to play a lot there immediately.

Maybe this will start a domino effect with other juco power forwards deciding--

Takais Brown, the highest ranking remaining junior college forward (#6 overall) has committed to Georgia. His decision was between UGA, Purdue, UNLV, and a late push from Indiana.

His coach, Todd Franklin said. "I think an opportunity to start for a team that he thinks their guards are really good and to have a chance to play and compete against Florida, LSU, guys like Joakin Noah and Big Baby, that was pretty attractive to him."

Another top 10 juco player, Blake Young, also committed today. He will go to Kansas State.

K State is really lining up the blue chippers...

Purdue on the other hand is losing some of the talent they do have, as one of their players has decided to call it quits as he struggled with injury, and Matt Painter signs a prep schooler.

Keaton Grant is one of the Missouri recruits that backed out when Quin Snyder left. He should help Purdue, who was hurting for point guards last year.

No signings yet announced at Bradley, but I have heard a rumor that one will be coming soon.

Perhaps Friday night at the banquet?

Here is a signing NOT to announce.
One Iowa's recruits appears to be on the verge of backing out of his committment.
He is the only player Iowa was expecting to sign this spring, and two of their players just left the program, leaving them 3 short of a full stable of scholarship players if Perry decides not to sign.

I was thinking the same thing...or perhaps "dreaming" would be a better word.

To reward BU fans for our faithful following all through the sweet 16 run they announce a couple signings AND JL's extention at the banquet.

IF POB wants to announce he's staying also.... what a great time to do it.

I compare this to a few years back at the Cubs Convention, when everyone was anticipating the announcement of the signing of Greg Maddux at the opening ceremonies. It seemed too perfect...and it was. He didn't sign for another 2 months. I wouldn't get your hopes up on any announcement, and in fact would be prepared to hear of POB declaration for the draft a day or 2 after the banquet.

Pulling into the office this morning I heard part of an interview on WMBD with Dan Dirorio and Jim Les. JL said that the sweet 16 run has opened new doors to next years HS seniors and may be a little late to impact the 06,07 newcomers but he seemed to have a lot of confidence in his voice when asked again. Like he might have a suprise.

                          I hope so.

Thats what we have heard that the 3 weeks we were playing "hurt" recruiting in the sense visits couldn't be made. With that said I hope we get "hurt" on a regular basis...

This morning's PJS article also confirms that Jim Les feels the run to the Sweet Sixteen did hurt the ability to get those recruiting contacts done early.
