I took the time Sat. night to go see ISU v. Evansville.

    Just a couple of thoughts:

ISU has a very nice team as indicated by their success so far. While no one player had a standout performance I was impressed with their depth of solid players.

Odiakosa and Slack are good around the basket. Very active and both seem to have a knack for being in good position for easy baskets and putbacks. Having two solid interior players like this with Sampay coming off the bench will take you a long way in this years conference.

Dyer certainly knows where he wants to shoot the ball from. He is always in position and ready to shoot.

Odzic is a very heady player. He and Holliway offer good bench support. They both seem to be able to handle and shoot the ball.

ISU plays VERY hard defensively. Evansville was obviously undermanned, but ISU made it really hard for them to "swing" the ball in their motion offense.

Dom Johnson IMO is a key player for ISU. He seems very comfortable on the court and has fallen into a role similar to Tony Bennet. He handles the ball well and helps vs. pressure and is opportunistic on offense. More of a perimeter shooter vs. the slashing style of TB.

It was kind of funny, all fans get a coupon for 6 wings at BWW if ISU scores 75 and ISU ran the clock out at 74 points. The fans BOOED the team. So much so that TJ mentioned it in a very classy way on the post game. He said that he thought that it was very unfair that their players who have worked so hard and done so well should have to endure that after a win. You would think after all the frustration the last few years that a team going to 5-0 in the conference would get a standing O rather that being booed over 6 wings.

I have been to a lot of college basketball games and ISU fans do really like to boo seeming more than most. Aside from the wings incident they felt the need to boo the 0-4 in MVC Evansville Aces and they came on the court. What would Bruce Weber do?

Evansville player very hard but is going to go through some hard times before they improve. Ely had an excellent game and is a nice player but after that their is a large drop off. I have never been sold on Holsinger and Sat night didn't change my mind AT ALL.

If Evansville hits any free throws they would have had a chance at the upset. I think they missed 5 in a row during the guts of the game when it was very close.

All in all it was good to see some different teams and get a little better perspective. I enjoy taking my boys to see ISU play because their Dad isn't a basket case and we can just have a good time.
Get Well Massive Mike! "Once a Brave always a Brave!"

Sounds like typical behavior (at any game) in this current era when people think it is "all about ME".

I'm always critical of our own fans, but the "booing" at the end of the game was done in jest. The players themselves were even laughing about it cuz they knew the fans were hoping to get the free wings, (which are nothing more than a little added bonus as it is.) I honestly doubt any fans were seriously/legitimately upset that we didnt score 75. We could have, but Odzic dribbled the clock out in a sportsmanlike, classy move and then he and others were laughing that they couldve gotten the fans free wings but didnt. There wasnt any SERIOUS booing, but at the same time I agree with Coach Jankovich that although it was all in jest, it's still not nice to hear from your own fans.

I'm glad to see the Redbirds are playing classy ball. That much can't be said for a lot of teams today.

If the lead is big enough, wouldn't that be the time to put in a deep reserve, walk-on?
If he makes the shot, the croud explodes. If he misses, then the croud just goes "aw-shucks" and goes home happy about the W.

Someday we might have a big enough lead to do that, but we haven't lately.

Evansville was with 9 points with 1:50 left and we only had an 8 point lead with just over 1 minute to play.

Yep. I thought UE played us very well. Simmons is doing a good job there, those guys play hard. With only 1 senior on their team, they could be pretty solid in the very near future.
