I figured this article oughta spark (even more) discussion about bad(?) influences on college athletics.

The "media" are truly the only people in the known universe who seem lay claim to "the media's right to get access" to these kids.
Can someone show me where this is detailed in the Constitution?

Does "freedom of the press" supercede an individual's rights?
Does anyone the media identifies to be a "public figure" no longer have any rights? I have even seen where media people will even set up telephoto equipment to peer through people's windows, to record what's going inside their house.
And remember the media rummaging through Henry Kissinger's garbage to see if they could find something of interest?

I made a (seemingly) harmless joke in one thread and pointed out here that Kevin Love doesn't seem to have any problems with the media.

As for this thread - Iceman and T were merely commenting on how the media is a little out of control. Sure the kid is a story, he may even like the attention - but ya know what...he isn't at UCLA to answer the media's questions or have his picture taken. He is there to get an education.

This media wouldn't be related to the media demanding "big brother" not tap suspected terrorists phones - would it?

I get that Kevin Love isn't there to answer questions, but if he has a weekly media session that he doesn't attend, I can understand the media getting a little mad about it. They went out of their way to go to UCLA to talk to him and he doesn't show. What if someone makes a doctor or dentist appointment and doesn't show? They'd probably be a little peeved too.

Maybe college players shouldn't talk to the press so they can focus on school. Didn't JL do that a few years ago?

Excuse me but why should he be apologizing? He's in college. His #1 priority is not the media, its not even playing basketball. Its his schooling. Sure you get a free ride, but you're only expected to participate in practices and games in exchange for that.

His coach should tell whoever is complaining that he didn't show up that they will no longer be allowed at any press conferences. The media should be THANKFUL for whatever they can get.

I think tornado was just talking about this one instance where he did not show up. He never said he had problems with the media.
