Will the real Bradley basketball team please stand up?
Bish just made a very interesting point on the radio. He said just because a team shoots badly doesnt mean they played badly ie UNI game and just because a team shoots well doesnt mean they played well, like tonight. He said shooting is just one part of the overall game.
He also made another good point. Last game it was our SHOOTING. This game it was our REBOUNDING. It is always SOMETHING and this far into the season it is INEXCUSABLE.
I'm downright embarassed that we start 13-4 and lose by this much. Its pathetic. Get your act together, or you're going to finish in the bottom THIRD of the Valley.
90+ points against a league opponent is ridiculously embarrassing. We suck
Did JJ and Will bring that much to the defensive side of the floor that our D has taken this much of a turn? I don't even know if it's the defense so much as the poor rebounding though.
The rebounding fundamentals have always been this bad...BU has never, ever blocked anyone out in the Les Era...We were bailed out by POB at times because he happened to be 7' and by ZA and Boogie because they could just jump over people...
This year it is just magnified because we are softer than ever and two of our bigs (MS and SS) can't jump over a phone book.
Why does it appear that Les absolutely refuses to make blocking out a priority on his teams? That is basketball 101.

Rebounding is part of defense. It's pointless and actually more counterproductive to defend well for 20-30 seconds only to give a team 2-3 more shots after the initial miss. I feel much worse after this game than UNI. I have said it all year - when we defend, we win. When we don't, we don't.
The shooting against UNI was an anomaly, most college teams can't shoot 17% in a half if they tried. I have tried to stay positive, and I don't think hope is lost. But I am sick and tired of these atrocious defensive performances. I really am. It's absolutely unacceptable to score 80+ points on the road and lose. Again, would Dan Ruffin really have made the difference? I'd say for the 2nd game in a row, probably not.
This team will live and die off of the 3 point shot; they had a nice lead because they were making them at the start of the game but ended up losing because they missed them in the 2nd half ; also when we have a lead we have a tendency to play too fast and take way too many quick shots which in turn keeps the opposing team from having to play defense very long; when you miss those shots it gives the other team a chance to catch up in a hurry which has happened numerous times this season;sometimes you have to learn how to protect your lead.
I'm not sure if this comparison is going to work, it's might be too much apples and oranges, but I'm hoping for at least tangerines and oranges...so here goes:
Allright, if BU had a football team, and they played the same offense as the basketball team, it would be a team that had a pretty good passing game, but not a running game.
They'd have lotsa opportunity for the big play(s), but it's always riskier to pass than run the ball. A long play is tougher to achieve than a short play, but a bunch of short plays done well can get you to the same place. The passing game (i.e., the outside game) can work for you for a while, but the defense can adjust easier to that or you can simply lose your touch. You can pass your way in the game or out of the game just as fast. When it comes down to the end of the game, the running game (i.e., the inside game) is what you need to put the game away; they're safer plays and you're able to eat up more clock, you still need to get points, but there's the additional bonus that the other team gets less of a chance because they don't have the ball as much.
Yeah, I realize it's hard to compare across two sports, but I think this sorta works, right?
A real fan celebrates the successes, but also acknowledges the failures of his team.
