Maybe we should try letting someone else play through their struggles and get some kind of inside presence going so those outside shooters can get more good looks.

I have been saying all year we need a 2 guard. When Ruffin comes back we should slide Sam M to the 2 spot.

I like what AW brings and think he has a great future at our 2 guard....Sam could fill the spot when AW is sitting......

Why don't we just say forget it to inside play altogether, and play Ruffin, Sam, Warren, Crouch, and Wilson? Shoot 40 3's a game and see what happens?

In all seriousness...Sam is our Will Franklin this year (or the closest thing we've got). He's got the shot and the savvy that we're sorely missing. Slide him into that role when Ruffin comes back, and show TCS a seat next to Egolf and Thompson.

Another idea might be to try and slow things down a bit instead of running ourselves out of big leads and control of the game. We might not get so tired and weak on defense in the critical moments of the game if we weren't running around like wildmen taking ill-advised 20 footers 5 seconds into the shot clock or throwing cross-court passes into the stands. Notice how much better we were in the 1st half when we were running more sets and working for good shots? Notice how it completely fell apart when we started to try and run-and-gun? When we don't make the other team work on defense, we allow them to have all of their energy for offense. Conversely, we have no energy on defense and no legs left. Might have something to do with why they're shooting 60% in the 2nd half and we're shooting 29% when it matters.

No wonder DC plays tentative. he makes one foul or one turnover and he's riding the pine the rest of the game.

I personally think the helter-skelter manner in which JL and co. substitute guys is not good for our team's rhythm. other than the guards, there is no consistency at all with the bigs and their playing time. SS gets no minutes one game, then is a horse the next. RA plays lots of time in one half, then sits the whole second half. Egolf gets nothing that resembles consistency (although with him i think it's deserved... he'll be good in the future, but lacks confidence now). Wilson gets good minutes, but frankly, he's not really a big. MS gets lots of minutes, and I am not as down on him as others here, but I think he'd play much better if paired with another tall guy.

I'd like to see MS really focus on two things: rebounding and defense. Scoring will come, but with SS or RA or even DC down low as the primary scoring threat, that would free MS up to:

            a) be in position to rebound
            b) sneak away from defenders for open layups
            c) play more aggressive defense

I think the most disheartening thing about this season is that we're about halfway through it and there is still no discernible rotation for our bigs.

Anybody else think this may be because JL is a guard and there's no big man's coach anymore?

I didn't get to watch the game, but looking at the numbers it appears that the team played (or shot better) a whole lot better than they did in the UNI game.

Despite a tremendous first half shooting percentage, BU only led by 4 at half time. Its hard to shoot that well for a whole game and the second half % shows that. My concern is that for BU to win games with this lineup, we will need to shoot 55%+ for a whole game.

With DR on the bench, we need to use these games to develop the other players. Our big men need time. I know DC has development needs ... but if he didn't have weaknesses in his game, he would be at a Kansas, North Carolina, or UCLA school, not Bradley ... ergo, the coaching staff needs to be able to improve big men who need improvement in their fundamentals. You gotta play them. Its painful, but it will pay off 10 games from now and we will be a better team when DR returns.

Which to me, is a leader. We dont really have a vocal leader like Will the Thrill and Zach Attack. They were loud, savvy, and lead the team. Sometimes I question Ruff's leadership

Maybe, but we didn't rebound well when Biancalana was around either. It's never been a true point of emphasis with this coaching regime, and it doesn't look like it ever will be. I don't think we should blame the bigs entirely though. Our guards are just as responsible for our rebounding woes as our bigs. When the Laurie brothers are getting rebounds under the basket, it's not Salley or Singh or Wilson's fault. They can't box out the entire team. I think the fact that 5'10" 160 lb Daniel Ruffin averages more rebounds than 6'5" 200 lb Andrew Warren and 6'5" 215 lb Jeremy Crouch tells the story.

                      DC

Guys DC is not the only problem here when it comes to rebounding!!Rebounding is all about toughness, and we really only have 2 guys maybe 3 that are tough enough...We are soft as team..IMO we need somebody to step up and get mean inside thats rebounding and inside defense...It is all about being mean dominant inside!! Is that the kind of team we are? Or do we have anyone to step up and get tough and mean??
                      Sam S
                      Theron W
                      Dan R
After that who is a guy on our team you would say is tough or could get inside and rough some one up!!
All the teams that are consistent winners year and year out have 1 or 2 guys like that on the team all the time.....

Toyota you are right we have soft team but I would put Sam M on your list I think he plays tough every night.

                          DC

You are absolutely correct, we are suppose to always have tough guards that is who we are suppose to be... It is time for us to get 1 guy maybe 2 who can mix it up inside...In the JL era i think he has recruited one maybe 2 guys who you could look at and say he was one tough banger inside...A guy that was a presence inside offensively and defensively!!

When DR comes back why not put Dr at the 2 and use SM at the point? Sm plays in control more then DR does and as proved by last night 7 Assist and only 2 turnovers he more then capable of handling the point and free DR up to shoot.
At the beginning the question was asked about DC playing and several hit right on the nose-HE IS WEAK W/ NOT HANDS-yea he is tall but look at the end of the first half when he was put in to keep the pass out of the middle and what happened? Well your man DC was out of position and the pass went right to the middle and they almost got a basket. You ask "Why", that is the answer. You want both of our best scorers on the bench and a tall 7 footer w/o hands and no D to play. Go back to school and learn the basics of basketball and then you will figure out why some players get to play more then others.

                              Nut,

Then explain to me O master of basketball fundamentals why a guy who scored 9 points last night and played solid d never saw the floor Saturday? Was he too soft for the mighty Coleman? If you've watched all the games this year, there have definitely been at least a few occasions that Collins has shown some ability, including early games like UIC and Loyola. As soft as he's been and out of place position-wise, he's been watched like a hawk the minute he steps on the floor by his coach and yanked the minute he screws up. No other player on this roster has been subject to the same scrutiny....if Matt Salley was subject to the same logic, he wouldn't have been given the chance to actually have a decnet game like he FINALLY had last night. Here's a fundamental for you:
1)Feed the Beast- He's 7 feet tall and when you're getting killed on the boards- SIZE CAN NEVER HURT!!!!! I don't care if he's marshmallow soft...he needs to be on the floor without fear of being yanked. Bench a guy like him fo a half if you want to send hima message...just don't punch his lights out by sitting a whole game
