Again, this has little to do with Dan Ruffin. Jim's the coach, but what about the rest of the staff? When do we start holding EB and SM accountable too? The formula to beat BU is real simple right now, and it revolves around the inside game.
I think that the entire staff needs to sit back and do a self evaluation.

It's amazing how much we MISS the elder Buescher! Merfeld and Buesch's son are pretty much worthless defensively speaking
I continue to try and not go down that path of thinking, but it gets harder and harder when we're deficient in the areas that CB's teams generally thrived. CB's teams were always known for on-court awareness (being smart), valuing the basketball (not turning it over), and being sound defensively. Halfway through the season, we run-and-gun ourselves out of control, we are careless and weak with the basketball, and we're awful on defense.
Jim is clueless as to who to play inside. Outside of Matt Salley, the only thing consistent about our inside players is the inconsitency, mostly in minutes. Sam is a DNP last game, now he's logging almost 20 minutes? I'm not saying he did poorly, but explain how much better he practiced in the 3 days since UNI? Austin gets in early, then barely sees the floor as we continue to get pounded on the glass? These issues were supposed to be worked out in the non-conference schedule.

I agree 100% no inside game and expect to play on Thursday! Salley is not the answer and JC is a set shooter and is a defensive liability at the 2. Play SM at the point, AW at the 2 (he should get the ball at the top of the key to drive in and pull up or go hard to the rim) he is tall enough to disrupt the other teams shooting guard TW at the 3 for more of the same and lord know who we fill in at the 4 and 5! Right now I'd put RA and DC. Now you have JC coming off the bench for some instant O and TCS spelling SM. SS and Salley spells out the bigs. I thought SS had a decent game tonight.

Correct me if I'm wrong - Jim Les with Chuck Buescher 44-24 overall - sweet 16 and NIT. Jim Les without Chuck Buescher 47-56 - no postseason. You nailed it chitown
I think DC needs to get some time on the floor. Obviously tonight, Bradley was destroyed on the boards.
The tough part is where do the minutes come from. Sally had 4 points and 11 boards tonight. While Sam Singh had only 4 boards, but 9 points, and 3 blocks. Sam did his numbers in only 17 minutes too. I really thought he should have gotten more time on the floor.
I guess you take out Salley.
I did agree with one think Chuck Buescher said during the game. The guards need to help rebound. I noticed on several occasions that the post got position and a box out, only to have a guard come in for the rebound.

Another disappointing loss for the Braves.
Aside from JJ Tauai playing the 4 spot in last year's NIT, we haven't had a guard that rebounds since Eric Roberson.
We have got to establish some sort of an inside presence or this group is doomed. I feel
that Jim needs to search for an inside combination to go with his guards. SS is my first pick
to create an inside dimention on offense and defense. Let's teach DC to do what he needs
to do to help the team. Stop wandering 25 feet from the basket on offense and help on
defense to alter shots and rebound. Less minutes for Salley could equal more energy from
him while on the floor. Work with Egolf to improve his inside game to compete at this level.
All but half way into the season and we still have lots of questions as to what our best
combinations are on the inside.
A big big game Saturday!

SFP, for the most part I agree with your lineup... But I wouldnt put RA and DC in the starting lineup together right now... I think that DC is soft so we need a strong 4 to go along with DC... I dont like Salley's game either, but for a change in the starting lineup, I would start Salley with DC and then have RA, SS, and WE spelling our bigs in that order. If RA's game can improve like I think it can, then and only then would I start RA with DC. But with the way this season is going... Who knows!

Perhaps this "NBA Style" of play doesn't quite translate well in the college ranks.....whoever the coach(es) might be...
Lotsa people fell in love with the run and gun Suns O.....but maybe learning this and focusing on this has made us deficient in the other areas; like the basics?
A great quote I've heard for many other life situations might apply here: "There's no such thing as advanced this-or-that; make sure you know the basics and do them well every time."
A real fan celebrates the successes, but also acknowledges the failures of his team.
OK.....so why is TCS not sitting on the bench next to DC?
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12
TCS plays well in practices, and scores a lot. And since this team really needs another outside scoring option, I think the coach is trying to get him to break out of his shooting slump. Unfortunately, it isn't happening.
Totals over past six games,
7-29, and 0-11 from 3-pt range
we have to get more from our SG's
Agreed. I think what's most concerning for me regarding TCS is that he seems deathly afraid to take a perimeter jump shot. Then I see him take an uncontested perimeter jumpshot from the wing that hits the side of the backboard, and I know why. I'm not sure how he shot so well in JUCO, because his form is terrible. He brings the ball back and across his body, it's just very poor fundamentally. Hopefully JL can work with him this summer to get that fixed. As for this year, I think it's a lost cause.
Which is why the Bigs seem so inadequate. Salley would be a solid role player with 4 other strong scoring threats. This year, our guards are not playing as well as last.

Agree on the guards needing to rebound. The ball goes up on the defensive end and they're hauling ************ to the other end of the court. If we had a couple of glass eaters we could rely on this would be great strategy. But we don't. Time to throttle back a bit on the run 'n gun offense?
