The "anything to win" theory goes along with coaches keeping jobs. Bottom line is if you want to keep your job you win. Plain and simple.

Longtime have you ever seen an NFL injury report? Every key player is a game time decision or probable for every game during the NFL season. Why is this a big deal when it happens for every game for every sport in the country?
Basketball doesn't build character it reveals it.

LTL, you call this an "anything to win theory"???????? Oh my god you make me laugh out loud with that one... I never played division 1 sports, but I know first hand of programs out there that lure players with prostitutes, illegal drugs, massive alcohol parties, money to family, friends, and girlfriends, cars, steroids coverups with police reports,.... I could go on an on and on but all this is an attempt for anything to win... Not a minor statement made by JL in the local paper.

This thread is way too pc and naive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

Well, Wessler should know better that the reason a coach doesn't disclose these injuries right before a game is that they don't want to tip off the opponent. Lovie Smith does this a lot, but he sometimes goes overboard because the injury report comes out long before the games anyway. But with two to three basketball games per week, why risk having an opponent prepare a game plan knowing their opponent's key player is injured? Let the opponent gameplan for one scenerio, then let them adjust on the fly when they find out at the last second of an injury. That way it will give the team with the injury an advantage....Well, at least in theory of course!

Edit: Well I just did read his article, and he did mention that he might have done it to keep UNI offguard. But then he still called Les out for his "dishonesty".

Way to go Kirk! Mr. "Kneejerk" media guy strikes again!

I think Jim should have gone out of his way to tell Kirk that Jeremy Crouch had a thumb sprain to his shooting hand, that Sam Singh had a bad week of practice and wasn't going to see any time, that Brian Lavin had grade difficulties and wasn't going to dress, that Rashad Austin was going to see his first significant time of the year, and that BU would sprinkle in some zone to go with their usual man-to-man defense. Maybe then he wouldn't be portrayed as being so unscrupulous.

This isn't a moral question--this is coaching strategy. Why should Les have told the press any truth and give the compettion more of an advantage.

Lie Lie Lie---so what. We all knew what the deal was -- or do you think Les should have called the coaching staff at UNI and gave them the heads up?

            CRAZY
Thank you and well put....we ain't talkin WMD's here. My goodness...a "bold faced lie". LOL. Whats his motive to lie....YIKES. JL doesn't owe ANYONE except his team the straight poop and quite frankly....IF he didn't give it to em for motivation or team psyche its his perogative.

I wonderhow bad UNI would have beat us had they prepared to play us without DR?

You know...I can see KW's point here. It's not like there was any concievable way DR was playing Saturday and I'm guessing there was a pretty good indication there was going to be surgery before going to NJ too. It's one thing if he's really iffy but he's having surgery for crying out loud..he's out for awhile.
I don't think it's the worst thing in the world but I think many coaches would have done it differently.....

HUGE difference between cheating and keeping team personel info private. We are NOT acting like keeping the Ruffin info did anything at all....we are simply saying JL has NO reason to disclose anything at all about his team to anyone. PERIOD.

After thinking about it a little more though..will you believe what JL says about a situation in the future?.....if so why?

Coaches do not disclose injuries all the time so it is no big deal and if anyone thought Ruffin was going to play yesterday without hearing the report then they were in denial as we all new his injury was going to keep him out for awhile.

JL isn't my stockbroker, doctor and vet. He's the headcoach of the team I root for. I really don't know what he has to say to me as a fan that would have me wanting the truth or for that matter I don't think there is much I deserve the truth about. I also don't think he has any motive to lie to me as a fan. A coach will tell you what you "need" to know which really, aas a fan, isn't all that much.

I think Wessler is off base here, and that's rare, because I find him to be right on about 90% of the time. He's upset the paper looked bad with untrue info and he's lashing out like a 4 year old. the more important thing right now is what will Les do to make adjustments to his offense and defense. I've been preaching zone until I'm blue in the face, and to run something other than the weave on offense. We can't live or die by the perimeter all year, can we? Our bigs have to get tougher or its Thursday night for sure.....and we all remember those posters at Kiel

I don't care where KW went to school or where he lived, he has been negative on Bradley ever since Jim was hired. He's probably still upset Coach Stowell was fired.

I wasn't really saying he does owe us anything. All I'm wondering is can you believe what he says? It sounds like it doesn't make that much difference to you but I can see where it would to some people
