  • Is Cole-Scott a Bust?

Tyrone Cole-Scott is having a historically bad statistical season.

He is shooting 31% from the field. Now that is down right awful.

He is shooting 19% from 3-point-land. That is down right Sean Smith territory.

He's only 63% from the FT line.

To top it off he has 7 more turnovers than he does assists.

Now, a game like last night shows a teams weaknesses more clearly than anything. With Ruff out there is plenty to worry about.

If you bring in a player as a Juco, he needs to produce ASAP. This does not appear possible for Scott.

It's too early in a D1 career to claim a player a "bust" IMO! He is prabaly doing what the coach's ask of him....and it seems to work in practice.....only problem is that 10,000 fans aren't at practice and it's against our D'! Remember how JJ was said to be the best player in practice (feildhouse)his 2nd and 3rd year but when the lights came on in front of the crowd for some reason JJ would rush his game just enough to miss every shot and even have trouble passing too strong and getting off the dribble! Almost forcing the action in gametime where practice it came easy.....I think TCS has the same problem.....speeding up his game putting too much pressure on himself! He is an extremely gifted athelete IMO and sooner or later it will work out for him! Right now with no other scorers stepping it up a lot of pressure is put on TCS and it shows.....but without DR on the court to settle things down there is no leadership.....it's time for JC to get it together and put force an effort I haven't seen thus far! TCS will become better......just like DC should get a chance to work through some mistakes and get a comfort level going during a game......IMO no one getws better sitting on the bench! In a perfect world CB will go to JL's house for Christmas with a few words of advice........the staff does not seem to have the team ready to play any minutes with DR off the court.....change things up to who is on the court....please!

I left out the most important piece.........remember a couple years ago "sweet 16 run" after about this many games into the season everyone complained about what a waste it was giving Will Franklin a scholie! The kid can't shoot....he's too small......people wanted him to take the place of Tony Bennett right away.......but all the sudden WF had a break out game...gained confidence and things worked out.......let's give TCS the same chance!

I don't remember that. I thought Will was a great kid the entire time. He was always hustling and doing the little things. That is key too...even if you are struggling, you have to contribute in other ways. I hope Scott can find something to give this team.

Hey no reason to get nasty with the guy!!

Agree that TCS has not shown much so far. As you say, if you are struggling in one area, try to pick up your game in another area. TCS's offense is just that offensive! but he isn't getting it done on D either. IMO scale down his minutes, get him some extra work in practice on everything, work him in in situations were he get build up his confidence and see what happens. He just seems to be pressing to hard right now and isn't really into the flow of the game.
Some see a hopeless end, while others see an endless hope.

I think Will E is playing just as bad.

I was gonna say the same thing, but at least he shows up on defense and grabs some rebounds. While WE is only shooting 40%, that number would be 64% if he didn't shoot any 3's. His free throw shooting is even worse than TCS.
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

Point is, he can turn it around positively just as fast as he has become a lightning rod on this board. Valley play is about to begin and the kid could be a huge player for you. JUCO's take time to get acclimated just like HS players do.

Don't write him off just yet. He could turn it around.
                Wow.....NOY?

I have not written him off yet. I just have some serious questions about his abilities. He just seems off in every facet of the game. No offense, and not a lot of effort in other areas, at this point.

Certainly, he can come around and improve. The biggest worry for me is the lack of effort and control he is showing at this time. Those are things that need to be corrected first.

i think we got spoiled at what we saw at the fieldhouse when he dropped 36 against st ambrose and in juco he was probably the star, the number option and maybe he's adjusting to being a part of system and not being the go to guy..just a thought

I know some people think I am a Bradley apologist, but in fact, I just don't like to see some of the exaggeration, hyperbole, and inaccuracies that come up whenever Bradley loses a game. Tyrone Cole-Scott has not had great success so far, but to suggest his season is the worst in history, is silly and not accurate.

After 12 games, TCS is playing 12.7 minutes a game and averaging 3.8 ppg. Yes, he is shooting 31.6%, and 19% from 3-point. But undoubtedly you know there have been thousands of Division I players who have had worse seasons than that.

Here is a little comparison-- Bradley had a junior college guard in 2005-2006 who also did not start so well.
After 12 games (the same point in the season we are now), he averaged 10.0 minutes a game, he averaged 1.3 ppg, and he was shooting 37.5% and 0.00% from 3-point.

Those numbers are much worse than TCS's stats this year. That guard in 2005-2006 was Will Franklin. He began to get more playing time in the second half of that season, and turned into one of the key players on that Sweet 16 team. His 2nd year at Bradley he became a starter, was All-MVC, and was, IMO, the MVP of the 2006-2007 Bradley team.

I am not suggesting that Tyrone will have as successful a career as Will did, But I agree with those who say it is a little too early to write him off as a bust yet.

Tyrone has all the tools he just needs to put them together and I think he will.I am more worried about our big men.

I am more worried about our bigs as well which is why I want to see more of Rashad Austin.

We are on the same page bufan. I think that Will Egolf was decent last night. Will E didnt have that lost look to him. But right now when Will is in the game, we dont get that much offense from him. Will had a couple of good ideas offensively last night but just didnt finish. He is a freshman and he will get better. I really want to see what Austin can do for us in a game situation. I liked some things that I saw from Austin last night in the limited time that RA was in the game.
