  • Postgame thread-- VCU 79 Bradley 64

This game can be summed up simply:

    VCU= a very good team
Bradley with Daniel Ruffin at 100%= a very good team
Bradley without Daniel Ruffin= not nearly as good a team

Bradley lead nearly the entire 1st half, but then Daniel Ruffin reinjured his abdominal muscle strain going for a rebound late in the 1st half. With Ruffin on the bench, VCU closed the gap and took a 4 point halftime lead on a long 3-pointer just before the buzzer. Ruffin did not play in the 2nd half, and without him, Bradley couldn't stop Maynor.

Andrew Warren also was injured. He needed 3 stitches near his right eye lte in the 2nd half. It sounds like Andrew will be OK. We'll have to wait to hear what the report is on Ruffin. Thankfully, there is 1 week before the next game.

Guess what happened. Why is Collins not playing??!! I dont get it. What an awful line up during the second half. Where is Collins at? Why does he even show up for the game! 3 min a game is worthless! Maybe I'm missing something but this team is flat out bad. Some major changes need to be made. We all thought that this game would be changed up after what happened at Butler, but I didn't see any changes at all. The offense is pathetic and the defense isn't there at all. Yes, Maynard is good, but all the open layups and eveyone was driving on us at will. I don't understand. I hope that Les isn't trying to make a point by not playing Collins, Austin, Egolf, or Ruffin (hurt). I hope Ruff gets better in a hurry, and I hope that Warren is ok. (Snell said he was getting stiched up). Maniscalco needs to get off his high horse and play like a division one basketball player. That means PLAY DEFENSE.

Im done talking, I hope Les makes some changes because we're in deep trouble.

Maniscalco needs to get off his high horse? Who would you have play the point with Ruffin hurt?
???We all want Bradley to win. If our methods and visions for that are different, then so be it. Don't ever attempt to tell me I am not a fan!???

I dont mind him playing, but he needs to make better decisions and show up on defense. Why not give Cole-Scott some time at the point?

Either way, we need Ruffin back healthy.

TCS cannot play the point. He is not a good passer or dribbler.
Maniscalco played great. He was not the reason we lost. He was 3-8 shooting, 2 assists and no turnovers in 30 minutes. That's not a bad game for a freshman against some pretty good competetion.

This is why Jim Les will bring in a couple more point guards next year to replace DR.

Both SM and TCS have a hard time playing D and both for different reasons. SM because he is not quick enough to play an elite guard. TCS get's lost playing D. I believe both will continue to improve and will be there by March.

I am a huge JL supporter, but I have question whether or not he and the staff he has assembled know how to coach and develop big men. Minutes played tonight:

                      6'5" Theron Wilson 32 minutes
                      6'0" Sam maniscalco 30 minutes
                      6'5" Jeremy Crouch 30 minutes
                      6'5" Andrew Warren 27 minutes
                      5'10" Tyrone Cole-Scott 21 minutes
                      6'7" Matt Salley 19 minutes
                      5'10" Daniel Ruffin 12 minutes
                      6'9" Will Egolf 12 minutes
                      6'9" Sam Singh 8 minutes
                      7'0" David Collins 6 minutes
                      6'7" Rashad Austin 3 minutes

I put the Butler debacle and the poor showing tonight squarely on the coaching staff's shoulders. They are the ones that need to step it up both in the practice and in the games.

Cole-Scott had a couple of good passes that led to easy buckets in the first half. I really just think he needs a chance. He's the fastest player on the team, and we know from his past that he can score. If he gets his confidence back and makes some good shots, I think that he could have an impact on the way we play during the valley season.

Maniscalco didn't play that bad for a freshman, but its nothing to write home about and it's nothing to what where use to seeing from Ruffin.

                        Just my personal opinion.

like long hair said way to prove a point js and to add to it again you see a senior(jc) look like a freshman o yeah before i forget did he get himself open for any shots best shooter on the floor cant get open to do his thing wow!!!!!!!!!!!!! seems to me that we need to do a lay up line every day way to many easy ones not going in the hole. dc is the only thing i can see in the middle why not play him when your down by 15 maybe he can see what he isnt doing in js's eyes because to me we don't have anything in the middle maybe to much hype on all these guys that are new i hope that they can turn it around at some point before its to late lets suck it up and put it together and fast

                              Where to start?

                              1. Bring back CB
                              2. We did not make adjustments without Ruff..
                              3. Collins looked fine and should get more time..
                              4. SamM filled in fine at point on offense
                              5. Crouch without Ruff is about 80%..defense keyes on him...Warren is coming along great.....
                              6. TW is awesome and should have been guarding Maynard from the tip.
                              7. We played lousy help "D" and that is everyones fault. gotta help the helper as well..we did not do that very well
                              8. Salley was decent...except for the help "D"
                              9. Austin is a horse and should be able to help inside in the near future..
                              10. found myself rooting for TCS alot..he is quick and guarded Maynard a little..but he received no help either.
                              11. Referees tried setting the tone early and made it almost laughable.....they disappeared later which was good. Collins foul on a shot was a terrible call
                              12. Ruff hurt himself on a rebound that he was fouled on , but no call....glad they sat him..conference in a bigger day
13 and lucky #13....we will be fine and win the rest of our regular season games.....except a couple odd road losses....

Nice to meet a couple of posters tonight....
