  • Coach Les' postgame comments

I can't recall him ever being as negative/angry as was tonight. Les is an absolute class act, so he remained calm, but man, you can tell he was completely furious.

    "Very unhappy with our effort."

There isn't a silver lining. This was a horrible performance. I'm not flying off the deep end and saying the season is over like some people have said, but that was also NOT a good game and we have nothing good to take from it.

This team needs a wakeup call and maybe that will be a lineup change, different people getting minutes ... who knows.

I still think we are a contender for the Valley title. I do think we're a good team. But, we certainly were very, very bad tonight and there's no positive way to spin that.
    Go Braves!

We need to score more points in the paint if we want to get better shots from the outside as we seem to miss way too many shots around the basket that most good teams will make; opposing teams are overplaying our guards on the perimeter which is why we are having a tougher time getting open 3 point shots and guys like A. Warren and Cole-Scott were able to drive more to the basket and score; our bigs need to contribute more points so other teams cannot overplay our guards.

It was brutal--I thought Bradley would give them a rougher time. let's move on to VCU.

I actually liked what I heard from JL after the game tonight. JL needs to light this team up and rearrange playing time. Practice should be very interesting tomorrow.

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

Well, I did not expect Bradley to win this game. And the good news here is that I don't think they will see any team more difficult to beat this year than Butler (yes, I think they may even be better than Michigan St). But it is nice to see that Les was not happy with the effort, and coaches need to shake things up when teams get complacent. Then again, a team like Butler can do that to many teams!

I smell a classic "Jim Les challenge" at practice tommorrow. Whoever practices the hardest and shows the most desire gets the nod on Saturday. Should be interesting to say the least...

That being said, tonights game was tough to watch. I found myself yelling at my computer about every 30 seconds. Bradley just does not have an offensive threat down low and that really hampers the teams ability to put points on the board. Obviously we are not nearly as good of a shooting team as we were last year. This team CANNOT rely on the 3...because we'll die by it. Couple that with our EMBARRASSING display of defense today and you get a 19 point loss in a game that could prove to be extremely important.

Let's turn it around and make a statement with a convincing win over a solid VCU program on Saturday! That's all I want for graduation! GO BRAVES!

I didn't hear the comments, but I must say I am VERY happy to read what they were. When that 2nd 3 went in that pushed what was a 7 point lead up to 18 in about a minute, I don't think I have seem Jim as outwardly frustrated as I did then. The defense had seemed to have come so far, and really regressed in the 2nd half tonight.

I was disappointed in their effort as well. They didn't quit in the 2nd half, but defensively they were just not there. They especially weren't there when there was a chance to really make it a game again. Back door after back door after back door. Truly disgusting.

I think Jim is tired of the close calls against good teams as much as we, the fans are. Go back to Illinois last year, SIU in St. Louis, this year Vanderbilt, Michigan St, and Butler. BU showed to be on par or above all of those teams for very long stretches, but always seemed to find ways to lose. It's great to be competitive, but sooner or later you gotta win one. We haven't won a 'big one' since the 2nd round in Auburn Hills. That's frustrating.

The lack of defense was frustrating but you can't play superior D when the refs are not calling the game on both sides. For most of the 2nd half, Ruffin, SM and Warren all had 4 fouls. Thats our main perimeter D that controls most of what goes on. Had the game been called fair, I think the D would of been tougher.

I didn't expect a win, but not this bad of a loss. The officiating messed us up unfortunately. When we began to mount our comeback in the 2nd half, it was whistle after whistle. Just so frustrating.

I thought the effort was there for the most part. Obviously, there was a lapse at the end of the first half. The offense create good shots. They just couldn't knock down a wide open three. Thats execution, not effort. The rebounding was even and I don't recall Butler getting many loose balls compared to Bradley.

The frustrating part is that Butler was beatable. I felt it was interesting that the refs rewarded bad one on one plays by bailing the offensive player out. Bradley actually took advantage of this when they cut the 22 point lead down to 6.

My biggest disappointment is not losing to Butler but losing by such a huge number. 18 point losses regardless of the opponent or where the game is played is viewed as a bad loss.

This team is encouraging in the way it does not give up but it is so discouraging because of the mental lapses it presents nearly on a nightly basis. Our defense is constantly out of position, ie how many times are we going to allow back cuts for lay ups or ball screens where the screener pops out and has open 3's?

Our offense has the ability to get open inside layups with our passing from the high post to the lane, but we have to have someone anyone who will finish. The missed lay ups are inexcusiable.

It is obvious he does not trust Collins, but he trusts Salley the problem with Salley is he misses open shots, is to small to body bigger players and is guilty of being out of position defensively alot. Egolf yes he is a freshman but he gets lost constantly on defense and I do not think any of his teammates trust him. Singh plays hard, is a good position guy but he can not jump and other then layups isnt an offensive threat. We need a shake up in our lineup.

I am not near the program but we have a man sitting on the bench who after seeing what we have from the above for the first 11 games really should be given an opportunity to see what he can give us. We lack something and I think what we lack is a guy in the paint who plays hard, rebounds defends and can gain the trust of the rest of his teammates. Personally, the other options have given a little but have not brought the total package. We need a total package brought nightly.

Oh and btw we will never ever survive with an assist to turnover ratio of 7-16
