SIU stinks. Pure and simple.
16 points in the first half against a 4-6 MAC team that has lost 4 in a row...
I sincerely hope SIU doesn't end up being the best team in the Valley this year...If so, we are going to be watching a lot of horrible, horrible basketball the rest of the year.

I don't think SIU is gonna win the the MVC this year.
What's sad is the perception of the BCS fans and sports analysts. They think the MVC has a couple decent teams and SIU and Creighton. So if SIU and Creighton don't win the MVC... then whever else does is NOT any good either... only SIU and Creighton can be good. It's as if Penn St won the B10, then they'd be looking at a top seed and they would be in the top 25 if not 10 of the polls. But because it is the MVC, that logic doesn't carry over.
So I think the MVC will get seeded VERY poorly this year. Best MVC will get will be the 8/9 game and the winner gets a date with a #1 seed playing in their back yard.

What in the heck is going on with this team? A 57-41 loss to Western Michigan??? It's just mindboggling that the loss of two players can do this to a team this quickly. Yes, they were starters, but the rest of their team from last year is intact. Can't two other players step up to help out?

Box score--
SIU has another horrible shooting night, and almost nothing from their bench to help out the offensively challenged starters (starters were a miserable 10-41, 24%). The Salukis were outrebounded by WMU 40-29.
It is looking more like the MVC could indeed be a 1 bid league, as the Salukis have just about played themselves out of at-large consideration. Bradley's resume is looking like it could be stronger that SIU's if they are both vying for an at-large at then end of the year.

It's unbelievable how bad of a shooting team SIU has become this year...You knew it would be difficult to replace Tatum and Young from last year's team, but this still is a team that has Falker, Shaw, and Mullins returning.
They just needed to get something out of the other guards/wings: Bone, Clemmons, and Green...and those guys have been absolutely horrible...actually, they have been beyond horrible.
Bone: 29% FG coming into tonight
Clemmons: 26% FG coming into tonight
Green: 25% FG coming into tonight
And I'm sure those figures didn't improve tonight...
Ugly, ugly, ugly. Teams can defend Shaw, Falker, and Mullins with 5 guys and leave the other two bricklayers wide open...tough to win that way.

Well regarding someone other than SIU winning the conference, whomever wins won't necessarily get a poor seeding. If Drake for example goes 15-3 in the Valley, wins the Valley tournament and has 25 wins or more overall, I would expect them to get a 5 seed or higher since the Valley is still a competitive conference. The same with Bradley since they have had a more difficult schedule. So I think the best thing for the Valley at this point is to have two or three teams break out in front of the rest of the league, and show they can be dominant.
Also, regarding your BCS comments Macabre, I think you could put Bradley into that group that BCS fans respect since they are only one year removed from the Sweet 16, and since they had a pretty decent year last year.
But boy, talk about a Wichita St like meltdown for SIU! Really no excuses for them to be playing like the way they are!

This year - I won't be wrong in thinking SIU does not win the MVC.
Time to tell SIU to step aside and let Da Big Dogs eat!

You know Coach, I've been the biggest defender on these boards regarding the Valley's chances of receiving multiple bids. But you may be right. However, I still think someone will step up and have a great year that would still warrant at-large consideration. And there's no reason why it can't be Bradley, and Creighton until proven otherwise that their young team can't deal with the pressure of the conference season. I think now Bradley, Creighton and some "newbie", be it Illinois St or Drake, will step up and play themselves into a pool of three or four teams that may be strongly considered for an at-large bid.
Of course, leave it to SIU for probably going 16-2 in the Valley this year thus screwing up that scenerio!

Good all mighty is SIU a horrible team LOL. 41 points, an average of 20.5 points a period is among the worst offense wise. I don't think SIU will be much better at home, they've consistently showed that they can't score at home and on the road. Bradley can easily score 50 points on a horrible "BU" shooting night. This is almost worse than the Wichita State #8 ranking meltdown last season. Also, just because SIU is doing horrible, doesn't mean the whole conference will be horrible and will make a 1 bid. Bradley, Creighton, N. IA and even Drake have shown early season success this year. I would think at least 2 of them would make it if they continue there success.
