Originally posted by georgethedog View PostWell written and very accurate story. MVC may be a one bid league this year. At this point, which team would even deserve at-large consideration? None, or at the most the regular season champ in case it loses in the MVC tourney. I am not surprised that the MVC is slipping after losing so many good players. BU has a real chance to win this league!Onward and Upward!

The league better take care of business now. The weight of the league's shoulders is on BU, SIU, UNI, and Wichita before conference play.
The Horizon League could shoot by us as their teams have some very winnable key games coming up, along with some huge SOS boosters.
The MVC could be down to 9th in the CRPI by the start of conference play.
The A10 will still rack up a ton of wins, plus will have some favorable key games during this stretch (ie as Pitt goes to Dayton, Xavier hosting Tenn, Fordham at Georgetown, St. Joseph's at Siena, etc.)

The MVC is currently 7th in conference RPI and I see little chance they will move up. We just have to hope we don't drop to 8th behind the Atlantic-10 which is close to passing the MVC. I see very little chance of falling behind the Horizon League into 9th though.
The Big 10, SEC, Big East, Pac-10,Big 12, and ACC are just clearly better than the MVC this year, and the RPI's reflect that. The MVC has had a nice run for the last 2 years, but we have to accept that this year won't be quite the same.

I disagree, as I view the Horizon to be a rapid riser during this stretch:
Valpo goes to Wisconsin and UNC, giving them a huge SOS boost (which is 239), so their RPI of 65 probably won't change much and the Crusaders could emerge as a serious at-large candidate with a strong Horizon League finish.
UIC hosts a quality team in Toledo, and pushover Howard. Winning those 2 gives them some confidence and momentum with an 8-4 record going to Akron which is a quality opponent. On track to flirt with an RPI 100 finish (which helps BU out).
Cleveland State's SOS is already 68. They host Ohio St, CMU (RPI 66), and go to Kent (RPI 52).
Butler hosts Bradley and goes to SIU (with a trip to FGCU in between). . .kind of a key stretch for them to develop consistency, as they should go 3-0, and give them a slight SOS boost.
Wright St has an interesting trio of games, a home gimme vs. St. Bonaventure, a winnable road game to Fullerton, before a quality neutral court game vs. Belmont. BU needs a 2-1 stretch from Wright here. 3-0 really gives us a boost. The Raiders SOS of 8 will take a decent hit here, however.
UWGB appears to be formiddable as well and will get an SOS boost for going to Michigan St.
Milwaukee hosts CMU and has a winnable road game at Wyoming, so will likely get a boost. Although their off-the-court problems quickly have Milwaukee becoming one of the garbage programs in DI.
Detroit has a couple respectable road games at A&M and Corpus Christi.
Nothing really noteworthy for Youngstown or Loyola. However, the Valley is in danger of being passed by the Horizon before conference play starts.

Yes, it would help to get a couple of quality wins this week as we have a few good opportunities left. But again, as I posted elsewhere last week, I have never seen an RPI top eight conference get only one bid. If I am wrong, someone PLEASE let me know. But I don't recall that ever happening.

For the record I have not insisted we will be a one-bid league, just trying to get people to realize it is not only a possibility, but a distinct one.
Furthermore, as pointed out earlier in this thread, we could very well be 9th in the conference RPI by the time it is all said and done.

Yahoo/Rivals' College Basketball expert, Andrew Skwara labels SIU
as one of the "Breakdowns" of the week.
and CHN has SIU dropping all the way from #24 out of the top 50 altogether!
BELIEVE IT OR NOT...they have Drake at #55!!!!!

Well, a distinct possibility is pretty close to a one-bid league prediction!

Well, considering we have 2 teams getting top 25 votes this week (which equates to 2 teams that are perceived to be in the country's top 40), I think the voters see us as more than a 1 bid league. I predict by season's end that BU and SIU are also receiving votes. So far, that's 4 MVC teams that have received votes this year (SIU, BU, CU, DU), so that's 4 teams that the pollsters have viewed as being among the nation's best at one time or another. People talk about lack of respect...I think we're getting it when we might not deserve it, which is the ultimate show of respect.Onward and Upward!

If Bradley takes care of business, it doesn't matter how many Valley teams get into the tournament. I understand that its easier to get respect if you play in a good conference, but realistically every season the one team I do care about getting in is Bradley and only Bradley. After watching and listening to some of the other Valley games this season, I don't see why Bradley can't win the regular season championship and the Valley tournament.Go small or go home!
