Dont be too hard on Sam.

Compare Ruffin as a REDSHIRT Freshman to Sam M as a true Freshman, and it's not far off. Freshman simply take a while to adjust, and any contribution is great. Also Ruffin was forced into starting his Fresh year, and he is able to allow Sam M to play D against one of the best Pgs in the nation at practice everyday.

FYI. Ruffin averaged 6.3 ppg as a Freshman Starter, and a slightly below 2 to 1 Assist to To ratio.

Sam M. 4.8 ppg as a true Freshman bench player, and a 24 to 14 Assist to TO ratio, and this is just 10 games in.

When looking at our 3 losses to date (especially Vandy and Michigan St.), we have had melt downs in the last 3 minutes of the game. Most of this has been poor shot selection.

I see a team coming together and getting ready to play tough in the MVC. The Butler and VCU games will be big...and I am hoping for the best.

Boy I just wouldn't call the end of those games "meltdowns'. Our problem with Vandy was slow start and some unfortunate foul calls on Theron Wilson parking him on the bench for most of the first half. You cant get down by double digits and expect to comeback and win very often.

As for MSU they simply just wore us down......sure we didn't make some plays but I didn't see a team melting down.

Why was AW on the bench? And why would we have lost to MSU? Face it, great players and teams aren't judged on what they do in the first 3 quarters. It's what they do when the games on the line.
I'm about done with this but how about AW's 3 with like 30 secs left? Where does that fit on your "gameline"? I see certain things in players that I like. It doesn't have to come in the form of an Eric Gordon or a Mayo and it might be different things in different players. I'm a big Trent Meacham fan and like they say, there's no accounting for taste.

This team is getting decent contribution from their bench but I see room for improvement as Cole-Scott and Will Egolf are a lot better players then they have shown so if they play like they are capable of playing this team has a chance to win a lot more games.

Honestly, I couldn't care less about how recognized a player is or his pro prospects. On our team now is ANYONE a legitimate pro prospect? Not that I see, so I'm not sure I understand the argument, or it's legitimacy.

Yes, Sam M may know our defense and offense better than other guys at this point in terms of court awareness and postioning himself, but he frequently is physically mismatched in terms of size and agility, so the end resut is the same at best; he may be where he is supoosed to be, but he will get burned because the other guy is bigger or quicker (either offenseively or defensievley). Don't get me wrong, it's not like it happens every play. However, someone who is bigger or quicker at least will have the basic physical opportunity to make some of those plays. Yes, he should play quite a few minutes. Yes, he needs minuted not only to contribute, but also to develop. But, should he play as much? No, because given that logic, there are about three other guys who are more athletic who need minutes to develop and need to play in obvious match-up situations.
Also, In regards to athleticism, its great and helpful. But we'll get a lot further using smart skilled players than trying to turn athletes in basketball players (i.e. the Sahiou experiment). I understand you'd like us to see us with quick 6'6" guards and fit 6'10" forwards but thats not reality, you talk about TCS being a better athlete than Sam. But if you see him you'd wonder if he played basketball. He is even smaller than DRuff, a step slower, and nowhere near the vision or drive potential needed to get separation on long range shots, not to mention he can't play D. Will I think will be good, but to call him a true 4, is just not being realistic, he loves shooting the three and is over matched defensively in situations where TW would be much better. As far as SS goes, I love him I really do, but I don't think he can ever be an everyday player. He is not in good enough shape and is to slow to play defense on anyone with any quickness at all. He is at best a 8 minute player, who can give us some tenacity and a big body down low to bang. As far as DC goes, heck ya give 'em minutes. AW will be a leader on the team, he's just got to get his head on straight and until he does that taking him out for Sam to give us better ball control and defense. Finally lets not knock SamM's athleticism, Sam is HUGE. He is the strongest person on the team and is a guard. When you say bigger you must mean height because you can't mean strength. People had the same complaints about Deron Williams for UofI and he learned to use his body to his advantage as Sam will and he is now one of the best point guards, well, period. I'm not saying Sam's gonna play in the NBA or anything close, but to say he's not an athlete is a fair statement.
