    Nice story.
Chet's uniform was the first one ever retired by Bradley in 1976. But it's unfortunate that he now doesn't want anything to do with Bradley or Peoria.

Chet's last return to Peoria was 1995 when he spoke at the BU preseason basketball gala. But he was trying to promote a book he had written then, which was critical of Bradley and his coach, Chuck Orsborn. Shortly after that, the story came to light of his unpaid debts to friends in Peoria. He has not had anything to do with Peoria since. He was named to the Bradley Team of the Century which was named and honored in 2003. But he refused to attend the celebration.

That 1995 speach was long and he talked mainly of himself...snore.

        Wow--
what a bitter sounding guy.....I sure wish he'd get over it and mend fences.
He is bitter about the NBA and how he was treated, bitter at the Bulls, the legal system, bitter vs. his college and its coach, and even apparently bitter at his own fans, team owners, and sounds like just about everyone else.

        Sad...........

Too bad he does not want any part of Bu as it is more of a loss for him then the university; also does anybody know why David Thirdkill seems to have hard feelings about Bradley as he never has returned and from what I have heard lives in St.Louis so it is a short trip for him to make if he wants to make it back.

There has never been any suggestion that he has anything against Bradley. I don't think he does.
There have been rumors of various reasons, but nobody seems to know for sure why he is in hiding.

Is it true that there are issues between BU and POB as well? From what I read in the paper a while back David Thirdkill has issues and just doesnt want to be found by anyone. I dont think its a Bradley issue????

I don't think there are any great issues between POB and Bradley. But I don't know the whole story and would be glad to hear from anyone who knows more. I think it was just that POB and his family couldn't trust that Bradley would be looking out for his interests over the school's. And that's understandable. I don't think Jim Les wanted POB to sign with an agent, so he could have the option of returning to school, and that makes sense.

As far as Thirdkill, I also don't think there are any issues with Bradley. He has reasons he doesn't want to be found, and I don't know anyone who knows what they are. I recall reading about a 20th anniversary in 2006 that the Celtics had for their 1986 NBA Championship team (the last championship the Celtics won), and even they had no luck getting ahold of David, or getting him to participate. So it's not just Bradley.

Having recently read "Long Time Coming", I can see why it stirred up a hornets nest at Bradley. Not necessarily with people still in positions at BU, but for sure with people who still had connections with BU.

In the book, he is brutally honest about being stolen from Louisville, and throughout, refers to John "Dutch" Meinen as Meinert (I do not know if that was intentional or not), among other things.

It's sad in several respects, especially because there has been a fair amount of healing the last few years.
